Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics - Curling

The Winter Olympics are here, and that means curling is back on our screens!

You can view the schedule here. Curling is on from 4-22 February 2026.

What is curling?
Curling is a game that requires precision, teamwork and strategy. Heavy granite stones are slid along the ice towards a target zone known as the 'house'.

A curling match consists of 10 rounds ('ends'). Each team plays eight stones per end and the final score is calculated when all 16 stones have been thrown. Points are awarded to the team that has the stone closest to the centre of the house (the 'button'), and they get one point for every stone that is closer to the button than the nearest stone belonging to the opposite team.

Very brief history of curling
Curling is widely believed to be one of the world’s oldest team sports! The first curling club was founded in Scotland in 1716, but there are records of activities similar to curling dating back to the 1500s. During the 19th century the game was exported wherever Scots settled around the world in cold climates, most notably in Canada, United States, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway and New Zealand.

Curling debuted as an Olympic sport at the 1924 Games in Chamonix with a men’s competition and later appeared as a demonstration event in 1932, 1988 and 1992. It officially returned at the Nagano Games in 1998, featuring both men's and women's events. The mixed doubles event was introduced at PyeongChang in 2018.

Hopefully! I won’t be able to tune in at 6pm (I’m travelling to sit an exam tomorrow and Friday) but I should be able to catch the last part of the match.

Less than 10 minutes to go!
It's started. Norway up first and it went too far.
A power cut has occurred.
Power back on and play resumed but that was a dramatic start.

Go Jen!
GB tied with Norway 3-3 after 3rd end.
GB winning 4-3 at halfway after 4th End.
(edited 1 week ago)
GB tied 4-4 after 5th end and winning 7-4 after 6th end.
GB winning 7-6 after 7th round.
GB wins 8-6 against Norway after the 8th end.
That was a great game.
