i applied last yr and i got an offer the interview is not as stressful as you think

try to do a mock interview with your family or teachers?

object:

i got a jack petchey award for spanish and i was applying for spanish a level, so i talked about how i liked learning spanish through music and films etc.

questions:

you won’t be asked all of these as they don’t have a lot of time due to how many students there are, but try to demonstrate your interest and enthusiasm for the subjects you’re studying, as well as why you want to an academically rigorous school like laet. for example, if you go in your uniform (which i did) make sure to wear any badges you have e.g. head student.

“Why are you proud of [object]?”
“Why LAET?"
“What are your plans for the future?”
"Do you know our four values (aspiration, endeavour, community, reflection)?"
"Give an example of when you've done one of the four values."
“What skills do you have that you can bring to LAET?”
“What makes you an appropriate fit for LAET and its aims/messages as a college?”
“How do you balance your work and social life?”
“What activities do you like doing outside of your studies?”
“Why did you pick your A-Level subjects?”
“Give an example of when you stepped out of your comfort zone.”

feel free to ask me any more questions!

is there a dress code for the interview

Hi, I got an interview too.

Whilst LAET only states “smart attire”, I am under the impression that their policy will mirror LAE’s which is:

Guidelines:
Formal, collared shirt or blouse and/or a smart patterned or plain jumper.
Formal blazer.
Formal dress / skirt / trousers.
Smart shoes that are safe for movement around the school.

The following items would not be permitted (this is not an exhaustive list):
T-shirts, Hoodies, Leggings, Jeans, high heels, Trainers
Outdoor wear
Clothing that features large logos, slogans, images or badges

Regardless of if they require it or not for the interview, I believe that it shows heightened respect and could benefit your application chances as it gives the interviewers one less thing to pick out.

I am thinking about bringing an ID badge from my Microsoft work experience that I independently secured, though I am struggling to find the link between that and education. Regardless, this is more of a test of your ability to articulate about something you’re passionate about so I’d imagine that the object's significance isn’t all that important but rather how you present it.

Btw, why’d you choose LAET?

It's a bit of the same, though I have already gathered lots of opportunities, and even have a company that said they’d be happy to sponsor my Uni application (which is crazy given that I’m in Yr11).

I also just wanted to be around people that were smarter than me in the sense that if you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

This is definitely a cliche lol. But I just felt held back in my current school, in the sense that I had to do so much revision at home to get 8’s and 9’s that I began to question the need for school and that's when I had realised that it probably isn't a good fit.

Sorry for the info dump 😭

Btw what other schools have you looked into?

I’ve applied to Woodhouse, LAE, LAET, WCS and I think I’m out of options for decent schools that don’t fry their students at the steak to get top grades (*cough* *cough* Brampton).

Current student here. No. No one will be making an impression of you based on what you wear. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Current student here. That's an excellent item to bring. Your item doesn't have to be related to education in the slightest. I brought items related to Youth Parliament - I was later sent a postcard as to how they loved my interview! Just be able to talk about your item.

In terms of what to wear, the interviewer will not be judging you based on what you wear. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

Thanks so much!! This was really helpful.
Well i’m kinda nervous since im not the best at interviews and its on 7th feb. What di you think i can talk about in my object that would really stand iut for the interview- in general, how could i stand out as in a good impression? I really want to get an offer and get in. Also, should i give lengthy answers with lots of explanation or not? I’m not sure what kind of answers theyd like.

It's a long story but the short of it is that I randomly met this executive, they asked what I was doing, I explained it to them, they were impressed and asked for my CV as they thought I was 18. I get in touch after making a CV overnight, and somehow after months of back and forth the person who works under them decides to build me a bespoke work experience placement where I get to shadow some of their executives. I go on to impress the executives, they want me back, and at some point they say that they can sponsor my uni application. I’m now going to have a summer internship with said firm, and I've also had placements in Big Tech and a few other firms. And I have an active LinkedIn account too with a decent following as well.

It kinda all happened in the last 6 months. Honestly I went from failing in a lot of subjects to all 8's and 9's with all of the above too in a really short timespan. I still wonder how it was possible, I mean schools like LAET seemed so unreachable for me back then.

Hmm, I’ll be there on the 7th. If you see a guy talking about work experience to his interveiwer, it’s probaly me 😅

No worries. I'll be there on the 7th to help out hopefully, so feel free to find me should you have any further questions.

Might be worth mentioning, I travel over around hour to get to LAET, and whilst it's not uncommon, it's tedious.
You've applied to lots of excellent sixth forms, my advice would be to go to the one nearest to you, as it will most definitely make life a whole lot easier - A-Levels are not fun.

But also see which college has the vibe you like the most, don't let commute be the determining factor, but keep it as a consideration. If LAE Stratford is closer to you, that might be interesting - they're also getting a brand new campus starting this September.

I heard some of my friends say that you present your object to sixth formers. Is this true?

I mean it is part of the process so yeah if you probaly act poorly, but realistically this is a test of your ability to speak and communicate your ideas to others. I'm going to be there tommorow to, generally you'd want to memorise the schools values and be able to speak in a way that hits all of those key points.

They write down notes about what u talk about, and rate u on categories ie articulation. It went by so quick and did anyone see that tall leng guy?
