Why does my Unis say I start on the 1st of September ?

I applied to the University of Greenwich , Birmingham City University , London Metropolitan and University of Westminster - and every uni except Westminster says the start entry is the 1st of September ( Westminster says the 14th of September ) I feel like the 1st is very early so will my lectures actually start that day or will it be later ?

Probably later - I spy on Greenwich, BCU and London Met's website that they all started in late September this current academic year, although they unhelpfully have not published next academic year's term dates yet.

you usually start with freshers week, which is mostly getting to know eachother before you actually start uni.
