How to motivate myself to study

Hi guys!

Sorry if this is a weird question now that we are in the home stretch of a-levels.

I really struggle to sit down and start revising, I know nobody likes revising but I literally just can't bring myself to sit down and revise at the moment. I used to able to sit down and revise but I just can't seem to sit myself down anymore.

Has anyone got any good tricks or tips that they use to motivate themselves to revise? I'm willing to try anything at this point, I have tried all the cliche stuff that school recommends but I just end up staring at my screen blankly lol.

i love the study bunny app - it basically tracks your study hours and puts it in a colourful bar chart. being able to visualise the amount of time I spend studying has really motivated me. Also study with me videos on YouTube!

Something I use for motivation is thinking about who and what im working for and what i can miss out on if i decide to not study. For example, i work for my parents who have so much faith in me and put so much hard work in their own lives to better my own. Not studying can prevent me from going to the uni im happy with. Also download apps like flora which stop you from using your phone during study sessions. Also something that helped me al ot is trying to improve your understanding of a subject. When studying biology having a better understanding makes me more curious and question the subject more, resulting in me wanting to read further into the subject. This is all i do personally so i cant guarantee it will work for you.

Hey there,

Don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone, loads of people hit this at the end of A-levels. Sometimes it helps to just focus on a tiny chunk, like one topic or even one page, and tell yourself you’ll do just 5-10 minutes.

Often, once you start, it’s easier to keep going. Changing your environment can help too, even moving to a different room or a library. Try mixing up how you revise, such as using quizzes, flashcards, diagrams, or teaching it to someone else. Honestly, just starting is usually the hardest bit, but once you do, it gets easier.

You’ve got this!
