Y12 Work Experience and Summer Schools

I’m currently in Y12 and study biology , psych, philosophy and chem (but privately therefore I’m learning it on my own until year 13 then I can drop one of my subjects for it) !

The career I most certainly want to go into is Medicine and this is absolute. It’s pratically the only option I’m remotely interested in and can see myself pursuing , for now. I’m trying to pursue other pathways for the time being , but my mind hasn’t changed massively.

A lot of the others are interesting but haven’t caught my eye as much as medicine, though they’re interesting , I always find myself in the middle of comparison (resulting in me just sticking with medicine).

I’ve applied to a bunch of social-networking and work experience programs in regards to medicine/healthcare , I’ve only just now come to the realisation that I haven’t focused much on summer schools.

I’ve only applied to two , which is attached to the Sutton Trust US Programme , as-well as filled a form so I’d be notified for the opening of the K+ Summer Cohort for Summer School pathways. These two programmes are heavily oversubscribed , and I highly doubt I’d get a place.

I originally planned on applying for more than one in year 12 , back in the summer of year 11 , and I’ve completely forgotten about the rest until now until my friends had reminded me of it.

I’ve tried to research for any other summer school/pathway programs over the weekend , but all of them have closed , therefore I don’t really have anywhere else to go. I want to try to attend at-least one residential to at-least get an overview. I know that’s what open days are also for , but that only shows so much.

I’m in fear there aren’t any left.

Could someone help me , and maybe give me some summer school’s to apply too?

You haven't mentioned any sort of 'people' experience - just focussing on 'schemes' and 'residentials' is not enough. You need some first-hand practical 'caring' experience - contact local care-homes and special schools etc and ask about volunteer work. If this is a problem, look at any sort of voluntary work that gets you out of your comfort zone and talking to other people such as volunteering in a charity shop.

PS. If you just need 'an overview' of Medicine then look at this free Mooc - Applying for Medical School - Online Course - FutureLearn or these free online webinars coming up in the next few months- Outreach | Leicester Medical School | University of Leicester (Virtual events (Years 7-13)).

I’ve gathered some work experience through voluntary work through the breaks we’ve had so far (half-term and the winter holidays just now !) hence why I said ‘work experience/programs’ , but I’m still actively searching for more, as it’s not enough as you said. Realistically , I should’ve said just ‘summer school’s and gaining insight into the actual uni’s in interested info going into.’ I’ll take this into consideration , thank you !
