Whats the foundation year like when studying Computer Games Design at ARU Chelmsford?

I am debating to apply for the foundation year instead of the first year, as I only have 80 UCAS points. I am just wondering, what does the foundation year entail?

Would it be with others who are also planning to do Games Design? What sort of things are learnt and done in a foundation year for Game Design?

Many thanks.

The Foundation Year is designed for students who don’t quite meet the UCAS points for direct entry. With 80 UCAS points, this would be an appropriate route.
You would normally study alongside other students who are aiming to progress onto Games Design or related creative computing courses. The year focuses on building core skills you’ll need for the degree, such as:

Digital and creative skills (including introductory design and game-related concepts)

Problem-solving and critical thinking

Basic programming and technology skills

Academic skills, such as research, writing, presentations, and teamwork

The Foundation Year helps you develop confidence and a portfolio, and on successful completion, you can progress to Year 1 of Games Design. You can visit our Games Design course page for more information if you are planning to consider us as an option- Games Design with Foundation Year - Canterbury Christ Church University

Hi there,

Thank you for your question!

If you decide to study a foundation year with us you will still be with students studying Computer Games Design. All modules for the course can be found under module details.

We would recommend to apply for the 3 year degree, and our Admissions team will review your whole application - not just your UCAS points. If the Admissions team feel you would benefit from the foundation year, that could be an offer, but we try to make an offer for the 3 year degree where possible.

If you'd like to speak directly with the Admissions team about your application, please do contact them today:

Best of luck! Let us know any other questions 😊
