Gcse or igcse geography pls help

Hi,
I have currently being studying for Gcse geography edexcel as a home schooled student, I was a student at school so i did year 10 and then left school at the start of of year 11,I am now trying to book my gcse geography exam and struggling to find a centre who will accept me and sign the Declaration for the fieldwork components in my school this was the first things we did in year 10.so this is complete however getting a centre to book me for this is proving challenging maybe impossible.does anyone have any experience of the igcse geography as this is the only option I can get hold off,but dont want unnecessary pressure as we are months away from exam dates May 2026 is the date to aim for. Any help or information regards the difference and if this is a possible option right now iam not sure.gratefull to hear from anyone who maybe able to help

Hi @Lu08988, I hope you are great despite all this stress. I actually did IGCSE Geography but that is because I am an international student, so it is not necessarily the exact same thing but I do have experience. And fortunately, I have friends who did GCSE so I can kind of help you compare the two.

Firstly, I can definitely say GCSE and IGCSE are quite similar. But the assessment structure for IGCSE can be viewed as simpler. This is because there is no coursework or teacher assessed fieldwork declaration required. Assessment is 100% by exams.

If you were to choose IGCSE:

You do not have to arrange or prove formal supervised fieldwork to a centre

Fieldwork skills are tested in the exam

You can just practise the skills on your own and apply in your exams

So I would say, for home-schooled candidates, IGCSE is often better. Remember, the two are similar in terms of content but it is just how it is applied that is different. And universities will absolutely still recognise an IGCSE qualification.

It is ultimately up to you of course, and what works best for you. I really hope this was helpful. And all the best 🙂

Thanks very much for your reply.i understand what you are saying.but its the content difference in terms of revision book size that scares me.gcse revision edexcel A book is 90 pages where as igcse edexcel revision book is 272 pages. So did your grades differ much from your friends which did the gcse students.they say there are more case studies in igcse? Did u feel this was true in exam days ?
Iam really trying to get a proper bearing on all of this as times is passing fast and not sure which option is best igcse or gcse ?
