Applying to study Law in the UK as an Irish Student

Hi! I’m a fifth year student in Ireland, hoping to study law at a top UK uni, but i know how competitive it is. Just seeing if someone who’s gone through the process could rate me on my chances 😊

Dream unis: either Oxford or Cambridge (idk which I’d apply to yet haha)
LSE
KCL
UCL
Durham
Edinburgh

JC results: 4 distinctions and 6 higher merits
I’m aware they’re fairly weaker than most applicants to top unis, and even though they don’t mean much in Ireland, I’m worried they’ll bring down my application quite a bit.

Expected LC results: achieved 2 H1s and 6 H2s (equivalent of A*AAA) in my Christmas exams, but tbh I was dying sick with the flu and crammed the nights before, so I can definitely get better for predicted grades and the real thing!

I also have pretty similar extra curriculars and super curriculars to most applicants, not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I can reply in detail if anyone is interested 😊

Hi , I'm an Irish student who has applied for vet med via ucas as well , I did not apply to Oxbridge however i would say focus on super curriculars more that extra curriculars for it .I wouldn't worry about your JC results, some of mine were below stated entry requirements but because the grades are so broad percentage wise i dont think that they would reject you on it, do your research tho to make sure u meet the entry requirements if you can. LC predicted grades are much more important, its a VERY different system to the CAO but much fairer in my opinion , best of luck with it !

Thank you sm for the reassurance, best of luck if you are still waiting for offers, or congrats if you have received them already! 😊

Oxford ask for AAA
Cambridge and Edinburgh ask for A*A*A or A*AA
LSE, UCL, KCL and Durham ask for A*AA

All of them ask for the LNAT with the exception of Edinburgh and you study Scottish Law over 4 years?! 😧

Most of the applicants will have quite a few 9s and 8s with some 7s too but if get A*A*AA or more you have a strong chance but a lot will depend on the LNAT too. Also, not forgetting the interviews at Oxbridge. 😉 lol
