rejection for law

Hello everyone!

My first time using this website, I recently got a rejection from Warwick Law. I feel very disappointed as they stated my application wasn't as strong as other applicants. I have got two offers. Im still waiting from Bristol and Durham, but I fear I have also flopped my LNAT. What do I do here?

There is nothing you can do apart from wait for the decisions from Bristol and Durham.
PS> Why did you apply to two Universities you don't actually want to go to.

Hello,
Rejections like this are really tough, especially from a universities you wanted , but it doesn't mean you're not capable or that your application was weak overall, You already have two offers, which is a big achievement and Bristol and Durham are still in play. Try not to assume the worst about your LNAT. Focus on the options you do have, do some deeper research on your current offers.

Hi,

Firstly, try not to be too hard on yourself because rejection is unfortunately part of the process, and it happens to almost everyone at some point.

Also, congratulations on your two offers. That’s a big achievement in itself!

Try not to assume the worst about the LNAT either. So many people walk out of exams, interviews, and assessments thinking they’ve done terribly, only to end up doing much better than expected. I’ve experienced that myself multiple times.

At this stage, the best thing you can do is stay calm and composed and avoid overthinking things that are out of your control. You’ve submitted your application and now it’s in the hands of the universities.
Focus on what you can control like your current studies and your grades. Strong final results will always put you in a better position, whatever happens with Bristol and Durham.

And remember, even if things don’t go exactly how you hoped this year, you always have options. You can reapply next year if you end up doing better than expected in your BTECs/A-levels and want to aim higher. Plenty of successful law students and lawyers didn’t take a “perfect” straight-line route.

Let me know if you have anything else you're concerned about!

Well done on your Bristol offer, I have the same and I also applied for Durham and Warwick (still waiting), but having reapplied from last year I would say the best thing is to try not to stress as your decisions will come sooner rather than later. Regardless, I think Bristol is a good mix of academics and an exciting social life so I personally will probably be firming it regardless, hopefully see you there!

Hi 1llusions,

First of all, I’m very sorry to hear about Warwick. It’s hard to deal with a rejection, especially after having tried hard and wanting it. It’s completely normal to be upset.

However, you already have two offers, and you should be proud. Law is a very competitive field, and getting an offer this time around is an achievement in itself. When the universities say that your application was not as good as that of the competing applicants, it doesn't imply anything like that. In almost all such cases, it implies that the competition for that particular year was just too high.

Admissions to such institutions are always a choice between extremely close alternatives. With specific reference to the LNAT, the vast majority of candidates leave the test feeling as if they have performed badly. The exam is meant to be hard. Many students who assume that they have failed are actually performing much better than they think. Until results are confirmed, do not assume the worst.

The best thing to do at the moment is to focus on the offers you already have and do some research about the courses, as well as the style of teaching and opportunities, at each place. Wait and see what Bristol and Durham have to say before making any judgments. It’s worth bearing in mind that your future as a lawyer isn’t dependent upon one university’s decision.

As a law student myself, I can honestly say, it’s not how well you get into law, it’s how well you do when you get there, your grades, your experience, and your networking.

You are still very much in the game.

If you feel comfortable enough to share, what are your two current offers?

Kind regards,

Hi there!

Rejections can be really challenging, it's difficult to not get an outcome that you were hoping for. However, it paves the way for redirection, which is a positive and exciting thing!

Congratulations on your two offers already, that's really impressive, especially considering how competitive law is. While you wait to hear back from Bristol and Durham, try not to think negatively about your application - the feedback you got could be indicative of numerous factors, such as the course being oversubscribed. It doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of your application. 🙂

In the mean time, it might be a good idea to familiarise yourself with the two universities that have given you offers, and keep positive while waiting to hear back from your other choices. It can be a really stressful period, so make sure you're giving yourself enough time to do things you enjoy outside of studying.

I hope you hear back soon & let me know if you have any questions. 😊

Hello,

Don't worry about this! Welcome to the club! I also applied to Warwick and I was also rejected despite exceeding their entry grades for the same generic reason. I was very upset but it soon became apparent to me that it was the best thing and they really helped me by rejecting me. Everything happens for a reason. It likely means Warwick was not the right university for you and so you should now follow your gut instinct by choosing a university which feels right for you. Please don't select based on prestige, select based on what feels like home. There is a good chance in the next couple of years you will realise this was probably for the best.
