Last Minute UCAS Tips

Hi everyone 🙂

With the main UCAS application deadline fast approaching (14 January 2026 at 6pm UK time), it’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement, nerves, and pressure. If you’re applying this year, the most important thing to remember is this: it’s not too late, and there’s still time to make sure everything is on track.

What Does the Deadline Actually Mean?

Submitting your application by the UCAS deadline ensures it will receive equal consideration. Universities review all applications received by this January deadline together. While applications received after it are considered if spaces remain, you risk missing out on your preferred choices if courses fill up.

Your UCAS Checklist

Before you hit submit, take a few minutes to carefully check the following:

Personal statement - Make sure it’s final, proofread, and truly reflects your interests, motivation, and enthusiasm for your chosen subject.

Course choices - Double-check that all course titles, universities, and entry year are correct, and that you’re happy with every choice.

Predicted grades and reference - Make sure your predicted grades and reference have been added and marked as complete.

UCAS Hub status - Your application should show all sections as complete, with no alerts or missing information.

If possible, step away for a short break and then read through your application once more with fresh eyes - this can help catch small mistakes.

Next Steps:

Keep your UCAS login details safe. You’ll need them later to track decisions and accept or decline offers.

Don’t worry if you haven’t visited universities yet. Many students apply before visiting in person. Universities will continue to run open days for all prospective students, as well as applicant days specifically for those who have received offers - so check your emails for invitations.

Ask for support if you need it. Teachers, your school/college advisers, and university support teams are there to answer questions and help you feel confident before submitting. You could also ask a friend or family member to proofread your application.

After submission, don’t dwell on it. Your personal statement is done, so there’s no need to reread it or worry about what you could have done differently. Universities care most about your enthusiasm, potential, and overall application, so focus on submitting a clear, honest application that reflects you.

Look out for your invite to Campus Connect. If your application to LJMU is successful, then you’ll receive an email invite to Campus Connect - our exclusive online platform for LJMU applicants. There you’ll be able to meet and chat to other students, making friends before you arrive on campus!

Wishing you all the best of luck with your UCAS applications!
