Does anyone else think that 25/26 has been a really poor year for grad schemes?

As the title says, I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking about this. I remember in 24/25, there were tons and tons of graduate schemes available, yet this time around there's been so much less. Many of the companies I thought were going to open their schemes simply didn't, which made it even harder.

I'm currently in a retail job working for a major UK mobile network provider, but I have been looking for grad schemes and other jobs which are closer to my degree. It's been so poor this year, and I really do not understand why.

The government has massively increased the cost of recruiting young people. The threshold where they have to start paying employer national insurance has fallen, and the minimum wage has increased and employer national insurance has increased. Add to that the employment rights bill and you can see the government has increased costs for businesses. Plus the flat lining of the economy due to huge increased taxation on employers and people - you can see it feeding into the data now with unemployment rising, vacancies falling and GDP being stagnant. All very depressing.

So in other words we're screwed?

100000%. Bright network and gradcracker don’t have daily postings anymore, it’s more like 1 new posting every 2 days

1000% this year there is either less grad schemes or the schemes have added 10 more hurdles to jump through just to get an interview

I checked Gradcracker earlier, there is just 307 listings on there, the least I have ever seen.
