Is there anything I can do about not having my national 5 English at a C for unis

hoping to apply for some unis for film courses and I'm stressing over the fact I don't have Nat 5 English at C but should be able to scrape by the other entry reqs. looking for any advice, will I just have to take a year and redo my Nat 5 English or could my higher media studies at B suffice for it. any help would be greatly appreciated

Personally I'd just message the unis you want to apply to asking. They can take a while to respond but I think after a couple weeks after asking whether St Andrews prefers higher English or history for econ, I got a straight answer and didn't have to guess. You could also try and take Nat 5 English again this year, because while I hated English nat 5 and higher there's not loads of content it's just hard but it would mean you could catch up relatively quickly compared with other subjects that cover more content. If you were to do this I'd watch video summaries on whatever book you're doing, practice RUAE papers and remember a nat 5 you get marks for quoting correctly so always put something down for RUAE/Poetry.For the folio at nat 5 I'd probs do the discurrsive it's the easiest you can get a decent mark by just doing a fairly simple piece on a contentious topic/issue. Obv I'd start with asking the unis tho.

Hi there, I completely understand why this is causing stress, but I’d like to reassure you that not having National 5 English at a C does not automatically prevent you from applying.

For our Film courses, we primarily look at whether you meet the 112 UCAS points or have equivalent Level 3 qualifications. A Higher Media Studies at B is a relevant and valuable subject for Film and will be taken into account as part of your application. We review applications holistically, so we consider the full range of your qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience rather than focusing on one result in isolation.

If you don’t fully meet the English and Math's requirements, we are still happy to discuss your individual circumstances with you. We also work closely with our partner college, South Bank College, where there are options available to upskill in English or Math if needed. This means you may not need to take a full year out simply to redo National 5 English.

My advice would be to apply and ensure your personal statement clearly demonstrates your interest in Film and highlights any relevant subjects, experience or skills. I’d also encourage you to get in touch with our admissions team directly on +44 (0)20 7815 6100 so we can talk through your situation and give you guidance specific to your application.
