SFE Special Disability Support Loan

Hi. I was wondering if I have long term mental health issues going back years and have medical evidence like GP letter(s) and sick notes but I am not in receipt of any benefits would I still be eligible for SFE Special Disability Support Loan? Or is it just for people on disability benefits such as PIP?
Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Hi there. Are you referring to the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) or the Special support Loan (SSL)? Thanks, Leah.

Hello. The SSL

Thanks, to be eligible for the Special Support Loan there are a few criteria. From what you've said it doesn't sound like you're currently receiving PIP, so the other categories are:

Receiving Disability Premium or severe Disability Premium; receiving the Disability Living Allowance (DLA); receiving Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

You can also be eligible if you've been treated as incapable of work for a continuous period of 28 weeks or more. If any of these apply to you let us know.

Thanks, Graeme
