Using an English PS for a Journalism BA application?

I’ve already submitted my UCAS application so I can’t change my personal statement, but I can still exchange one of my English Lit options for a Journalism one at Uni of Sheffield, my chosen uni. Is this a viable option given that my personal statement doesn’t mention Journalism?

I’d planned to do a Masters in it after graduating with English as a safer route into teaching, but after properly looking into it I realised that wouldn’t be possible financially. I do love English but Journalism is my dream career, and teaching was always more of a back-up.

Do a Masters degree later if this is then what you want to do. A first degree in Journalism is a bit niche and may restrict your opportunities with main-stream employers. An English degree will introduce you to many different forms of writing and usually gives you opportunities to develop your own writing. You will also have opportunities to get involved in student journalism at Uni and develop skills etc. A Journalism postgrad on top of an undergrad in whatever subject is how most successful journos train - look at the courses at Cardiff or City, these are the best available, especially City :
All Degree, Foundation & Short Courses City St George's, University of London
Find a postgraduate taught course - Study - Cardiff University
