A level results - SLT

Hello, this is to anyone who has already done and dusted their alevels. I was wondering if you still got into university with lower results than your uni entry requirements and for which course because my sister who completed alevel 2025 did pharmacy whose entry requirements where AAB but she got BBC and they still gave her the offer. Anyone had similar experiences? If so please let me know for which courses and the grades. Also I an applying for SLT and my entry requirements are BBB
Thank you

Also she didn’t have to go through clearing however, my sisters friend applied for the same course and got BCC and got rejected
Hi Cinnamon,

Most people have an aspirational choice they apply for which can be 1-2 grades above what you are predicted, and depending on how popular the course is that year there is indeed a chance you can still get an offer - although this is not guaranteed.

Similarly, when A-level results come out in August, there is a chance people can still be accepted if they miss their grades. This of course depends on how many people meet the asking grades, but most unis will carefully look at near-misses (i.e. people who narrowly missed their offer) and although not guaranteed, may still accept people if there is room on the course.

Just also remember that most unis will look at applications holistically, considering not just your grades but your context, previous academic profile and personal statement, and so two people who apply with the same grades will not necessarily both receive an offer.

Does that help? Hopefully I've understood properly but let us know if you need any more clarification! 🙂

SLT lecturer here.

It happens every year across most universities but obviously depends upon how others with offers perform. Universities typically give out more offers than placements knowing not everyone puts you down as a firm or insurance; some people withdraw; some don't meet their offers; or some exceed them and might want to try for another university in clearing. Most courses are looking to take on more students as well so you perhaps have more scope to get on with missed offers than you would have in the past.
