Predicted grades

Hi, these are my predicted grades for my 2026 GCSEs from my teachers. How much would I need to get these up by to get into any uni? (I don’t want my uni choices to be at all limited by my GCSEs because I don’t know how my A-Levels will go so even Oxbridge could be an option as long as my GCSEs go well.)
Science - 55
Maths - 7
English lit - 7
English lang 7
RS - 8
History - 7
Spanish - 8
Textiles - 8
Art - 6
At the moment I’m in foundation science but I’m moving up to higher as I got 55 in my mock
Tips for all subjects would be appreciated but especially my weakest subjects and the core subjects (English, maths)

Typically what I suggest to most people is aiming for a 7 both in English Language and Maths. When you apply to some slightly quantative Oxbridge courses that dont require maths alevel they tend to ask for 7 (likewise for humanity courses in english). That said, you also want to achieve good grades in the subjects you want to study for alevel. This is because usually a good grade means you enjoy the subject and it would be good for you to carry on + some sixth forms tend to hsve requirements of 5/6/7 to carry on that subject in upper school.
I think its always rumoured that you need perfect 9/8 to apply for oxbridge but thats not the case- just making sure you pass and in your case aiming for a 6 and above in each subject would be a good target. That said, it also brings confidence have some top grades. So maybe aiming for a 8/9 in subjects you want to continue studying would put you in a strong position.
Also, for oxbridge its ALWAYS the predicted alevel grades that matter. You have to meet their requirement (AAA-A*A*A) so dont worry too much about gcse's- focus more on nailing those subjects that you want to study further.

Hello, You're already in a good position for most universities. Daily short practice questions focus on exam technique, best for Maths topics. English try practicing practice times questions, memorise high grade structures, ad improve analysis depth rather than content.

Hi no worries! I do aqa English so this will be most applicable if you do too
For lang I would recommend doing as many practise questions as possible and getting your teacher to mark them if you can. Put emphasis on the Q5s if they’re something you struggle with as they are worth half of each paper so if you do really well in those you can afford to lose a lot more marks (in my mock i got a 6 in lang and only got half marks on most of the questions, my grade was mostly due to my good answer on Q5)

For lit, I would recommend making sure you REALLY understand the plot/ themes/ characters of each book, I felt really secure in a Christmas carol which was my lit mock mostly because I read the book about three times which also helped me memorise quotes. This is also really helpful for the Shakespeare you study as the language used can be confusing. Also content is a really easy way to gain marks as if you memorise certain facts u can use them in basically any essay.

Also, if you improve a lot in one of them (lang/lit) chances are you will improve in the other too as the skills are quite transferrable!

Sorry for the waffle I hope this was helpful! I’m happy to give more specific tips for lit if we do the same pieces of literature (I do Macbeth, a Christmas carol, an inspector calls, and love and relationships poetry)

Thank you so much! This was very helpful, also do you use a specific structure for your answers like PEEL ,what how why, petal? And for literature i do an inspector calls do you make flashcards, if so, what do you write on them, and where do you get this information? For english language paper 2, do you have any specific tips? Sorry if I'm asking for too much.

Hi no worries! No I don’t really use a specific structure, my teacher usually recommends that we try to use all of the parts of PETAL point evidence technique analyse link inside of each paragraph a few times so usually I would have my introduction linking to the question and then do my paragraphs something like peetatelcwpeetalel (content and writers intentions also need to be embedded somewhere) I usually do 1-2 quotes per paragraph. I don’t usually make flashcards my main revision tool is Seneca I just do all the lessons on there for each book and do loads of essay plans before tests. If u do want to make specific flashcards it could be helpful to make flashcards with quotes for each character and some key words linking to them eg eva - naive or you could write out key quotes and then the meaning/ analysis on the back. Pmt has some good resources with key quotes and analysis. I can’t give loads of tips for aic exam structure becuase I haven’t really gone over that at school yet we’ve more been doing Macbeth/ acc/ lang paper 1. So unfortunately I don’t really have any tips for lang paper 2 but I’m studying it at school starting next week so I’m happy to update u if I do have any tips! My main tip for lang would be read lots if you do like reading as it expands ur vocabulary and use of punctuation and read example grade 9 answers but I can’t really remember each individual question so don’t have really helpful suggestions
Good luck!!!

Heyy, I cant speak for Cambridge/Oxford level, but at gcse, I got 7666554 and 54 in combined higher science. Because I didn't take a language or do seperate sciences I was told any Russel group would reject me. Now I have gotten offers from top unis like Edinburgh Exeter and York! (My predicted is A*AB plus epq if that's useful) Some courses/ unis will have requirements so you might want to look into that depending on the course you'd like to do. Your predicted and subjects themselves look strong so no need to stress- even if things don't go as well as you hope, its always still possible!!! hope this is helpful
