Graduate Entry Medicine EU Recognition

Hi,

Has anyone recently tried to homologate a 4 year UK GEM degree in a EU country?
I have read that the EU directive was changed to “5 years and 5500 hours” while the UK was in the EU to safeguard GEM as apparently FY1 counts as a year.

However, I would appreciate if someone has recently managed to move to the EU with a GEM degree as I don’t want to start a degree that will not allow me to move back to the EU (particularly Spain).

I did not say my primary and sole intention is to practice in Spain 😅 but seeing specialty competition ratios and being Spanish I think it is wise to keep my options as open as possible. However I need to study in the UK bc that is where I live and have done my undergrad at etc. I specified Spain bc for instance I know Germany is super strict on degree homologation but I have no intention to go there as I know zero German.

Interesting question. I have a GEM degree and I have checked it is considered equivalent in Greece and Germany, although for Germany would likely need an exam, which is more to do with Brexit rather than the length of degree. The prerequisite seems to be to have finished FY1. I can't speak about Spain though.
