My son completed A Levels in 2025 but has a conditional offer not unconditional

My son is having a year out after completing A Levels and he got ABC. He has received his first offer from Newcastle Uni but it’s a conditional offer for ABB.

He’s applied independently so can’t ask his college for help - has this happened to anyone else? He’s not taking any more exams so can’t achieve ABB. We had assumed that any offers would be unconditional based on his actual grades. We are so confused!

We’ve double checked his application and it definitely shows his actual grades with the dates of June 2025.

Ring them up and clarify. Did he put he was retaking any exams? ie 2026 and pending

Well it’s certainly worth reaching out to Newcastle admissions outlining your application highlighting you are not sitting in 2026, this is a strange decision not to accept or reject if there is no more pending qualifications. It does seem like a administrative mistake.

No there were no pending exams and his personal statement was clear that he’d finished school and is on a year out working and then travelling.

We’ve double checked the education section and it has all his GCSEs with grades from 2023 and his A levels with grades from 2025. I really hope it’s an admin error and they give him an offer. His grade A is in his chosen degree subject so we’re keeping everything crossed.

They made a mistake with his offer but now sorted and it’s definitely an offer with the grades he’s got. He now needs to upload his certificates. And in double good news he got an offer from them today for the other course he applied for. Thanks for replying.
