feeling hopeless in a levels

hi, so im currently studying econ, psych, and politics. I’ve recently completed a mock for psychology and i got a D. I’ve been getting D’s so far due to not finishing the exams (my writing speed is quite slow and I read ). Its the same thing for all my other subjects. My teachers genuinely think im thick and I don’t revise or I don’t have the right revision technique and i need to practice my writing speed. I’ve tried every revision technique and I constantly practice my writing speed. I’m just so tired of hearing this and my parents have been pestering the school about giving me exam time. (my school only provides this to students with disabilities). I genuinely feel so dumb and I really want to give up on sixth form. I know the content and revise it but I can’t write or read it fast enough like everyone else. I don’t think academia is for me. I probably need some words of encouragement but oh well. Thats my dilemma :|

from what I know your subjects are very writing heavy.. not sure completely, so correct me if I’m wrong, but in your subjects, don’t you get some of the paper being based on easy 1 mark questions?
1) I’d invest in a tutor to speed en up my pace or practice at home to try and speed up my writing. Pretty handwriting doesn’t matter, it just has to be legible.
2) if this doesn’t work, I’d suggest skipping the one markers to get the end of the paper for the biggest marker, so say my exam had two 10 markers and one 30 marker, I’d immediately go onto the thirty marker, then do the 10 markers etc, so I’d go backwards if you get what I mean. One markers are for people who need to boost their grade with quick memory and application questions. BUT do keep in mind, you need to ensure you know how to apply answers to the questions. If you can’t get 15 marks on a 30 marker, it would also be a necessary to get a tutor because you need to pick up ALL the marks! (It’s a need not a want c:<)

Good luck and I hope the best for you!

Hi @bananaaa123. I think you are not lazy and neither are you dumb. What you said about having the knowledge about the content but not being able to finish on time definitely does not relate to how intellectual you are. A lot of people in this world who are very capable also struggle in the exact same way you describe. It is good that the school is providing support. This may help you and you may get better over time. Being negative and panicking wont help you as you will start to feel overwhelmed. Keep doing what your doing but be positive as this can have a really huge impact on your performance! I hope this helped and good luck with everything. Wishing you all the best. 😀

Hey @bananaaa123,

I'm sorry to hear you've been having a hard time with your A-Levels so far. It can be frustrating to achieve low scores due to time constraints, especially when you clearly know the content itself.

I'd recommend speaking to your teachers or your Head of Year about your writing speed. They may be able to provide some form of support or suggest subject-specific time management techniques based on your current writing speed. As mentioned above, remember that your handwriting doesn't have to be perfect - it just needs to be legible enough for the examiner to understand what you've written.

Best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

But the thing is, the exam officer only gives the extra time in exams for students with learning difficulties/disabilities. I don’t think they’ll eve care and tell me the same thing over and over again. I hate this rn LMAO😭
