Advice for future as SLT

Hi I am currently in college and I have received all of my offer for speech and language therapy. I was wondering if any SLT ir students in this course tell me what inspired them to get into it and what qualities are needed as I feel like Its not for me and I am only going into this course because I have no idea what else I want to do.
Thank you

You must be aware of the role of an SLT if you have managed to get all offers. Did you shadow an SLT before you applied? Did you find it interesting?

Yes, my niece has one as she has autism and that inspired me to get into the course abd I even did volunteering with deaf children but I still feel as though I am not that interested in it.

SLT is quite a diverse career. Working with children is only one client group. I have myself worked in prisons, psychiatric hospitals, and major trauma centres. You will get exposure to working with children and adults on your course. But I suppose the key thing is having some interest in how communication and eating/drinking work and wanting to support people to do develop/recover these skills.

There is definitely no harm in taking a year out to consider your choices rather than ploughing on with doubts then dropping out a year or two down the line.

Let me know if you have any questions.
