Uni Of Reading or Uni of Sussex

Im stuck between choosing reading or Sussex, Ive heard that Reading apparently is higher ranked and better for employers, but I also see alot of reading students online saying they hate it, which socially is sort of more friendly and welcoming, I would probably choose between these unis now based upon the type of people there, So i do want a less of a chronically online political and unfriendly environment and more of a relaxed and sociable environment, sorry if this comes off abit weirdly written.

Both universities are good, so academically speaking you won't have an advantage going to one over the other. I know Reading well and l really liked living in the city. The campus is located in the nicer parts of the city, and it is green, spacious, and leafy. London is just half an hour by train, and Oxford is less than that. Economically, Reading is very high up the list in the UK as one of the best areas to live and work.

I don't know much about Sussex, although Brighton is a mixed bag as a place.

Sussex - lots of touristy stuff to do, lots of arty stuff, and seaside.

Good evening,

It's great to hear you are considering reading, I am a current 3rd year student.

Choosing a university depends on what you want from your university experience. Every student wants something slightly different, such as a lecture style or exams vs. no exams. I always recommend deciding what you want from your university and writing a list of your goals. You can compare the two universities to your own criteria; this means the university will be the best fit for you.

The Whatuni website is good for looking at different Courses, as it offers a comprehensive list of student reviews. Similarly, the UCAS website has tips on comparing undergraduate courses and universities, which is a great way to narrow down your options.

It is a very personal decision to choose a course, so I recommend reaching out to our ambassadors and reviewing the course reviews and modules. There is an ambassador scheme at the University of Reading where prospective students can message current students; more information is available here. They will be able to provide you with an insider's perspective on the degree and answer any questions you may have about the course.

When I was applying to the university, I found it very helpful to attend an Open Day; however, for students who live far away or do not have access to an Open Day, there is a Virtual Tour that prospective students can view from home. I highly recommend taking a look at the Virtual Tour, which provides insight into the campus.

Also, the university offers Undergraduate Offer Holder Days for certain courses, so I highly recommend having a look at these, as you can meet other students on your course and the staff.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions, please let me know, and I'll be happy to help.

All the best,
Ella
