Essentially what exactly are tutors looking for?

I'm getting a little frustrated trying to break over that 70% marker. I very much want to graduate with a Distinction in my MSc.

I've completed two 20 credit modules so far and my scores were as follows:

Module 1:
PowerPoint Presentation worth 30% - grade 66%
Essay worth 70% - grade 70%
Overall: 68.8%

Module 2:
Essay Plan worth 10% - grade 73%
Essay worth 90% - grade 68%
Overall: 68.5%

It's maddening - I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.
The feedback on the PowerPoint wasn't too bad but as I don't think I'll be doing any more PPs it's not terribly useful.
The feedback on Module 2s Essay was ironically mostly positive. Lots of praise. His only gripe was that I hadn't used any subheadings (I've honestly never used subheadings in an essay before ever, and had no clue he was expecting any), and that he thought I could have done with more paragraph breaks. He did suggest how I could have explored the topic even further, but without going over the word limit that would have been impossible. So I don't really know what I'm supposed to take away from that.

For reference I'm studying Ancient Worlds for my MSc.

I graduated from my undergraduate degree in Classical Studies with a First.

If anybody can kind of steer me in the right direction that would be super helpful. Just what are they looking for in humanities master's essays in order to grant Distinctions?
