Advice on transferring Universities

Hi there

I am currently studying Modern Languages - Spanish & French and am in First Year

I am looking for advice as just over a month into uni I swapped out my degree from Spanish and something else to Spanish and French and I didn't actually want to study French but felt like I had no other options as I wanted to study Modern Languages purely at the time. I am struggling with the the French course and being away from family as I moved far for uni.

Basically I want some advice if I should consider moving universities and staying on the course but just then being closer to home (which would help) or even switching courses or staying where I am.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a course that you like the look of that is closer to home?

In terms of practicalities, if you do decide to start a new course, you would still be fine for student finance as you have only used one year of your entitlement. Today is the equal consideration deadline for 2026 applications so there is a risk that the course you do want might close to further applicants. However, language courses tend to be less competitive so that might not be the case. You can still apply after the eq deadline but you will need to make a new application for 2026 entry, include your current uni in the educational history, write a personal statement (the format has changed this year) and approach a referee.

Thank you so much for the advice honestly! I really appreciate it!
