picking a uni for criminology

hey!! i’m currently in year 13 & have received 5/5 offers, but i don’t really have a plan of what career i would do with my degree & just chose it out of passion for the subject.

i’m really passionate about helping victims of crime & working towards a world where crimes are reported differently in the media to prevent crime rather than sensationalising it. i’m hoping to go to a uni with a course that captures my passion.

my predicted grades are ABB & i’ve applied to loughborough, surrey, essex, royal holloway & oxford brookes

thank you!!

You sound like you have a good heart, I hope you manage to follow your passion

You can google the courses and see what info shows up online, but the best thing you can do is go to the offer holder days with some prepared questions to help you decide which university will be the best one for your future ambitions!

Hello 👋
I hope you are well.
It is great to hear that you have applied to study on the BSc Criminology course at Oxford Brookes University! Congratulations on your offer🎉🎉🎉
While many criminology courses are taught from a criminal justice angle, we’re a bit different at Oxford Brookes. You’ll study the subject from a much broader, interdisciplinary perspective. You’ll look at the social causes of crime. You’ll consider how race, gender and class overlap and define our perceptions. Most importantly, you’ll learn to challenge common misconceptions that can cause inequality in the criminal justice system. You could work with an NGO on placement, helping to support disadvantaged children to make positive decisions and avoid crime. Maybe you’ll choose our Green Criminology module and work towards a career in environmental justice. Perhaps you want to join the Police? Whatever path you want to take, we’ll help you get there.

Invitations to our Offer Holder Day on the 21st March will be going out soon via email. This is also a great opportunity to get a feel of the course and speak to current students/ academic staff to help make your decision on whether Oxford Brookes is the perfect choice for you!

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the admissions team by email: [email protected] or telephone: 01865 535000
We look forward to hopefully seeing you on campus in the future!
