I have 4 months to lock in - help

My A-levels start in 4 months and I really need to step up. Please help!! I'm predicted A* in geography, A in Chemistry and B in biology and A in AS maths, but realistically I am currently working at A, B, B and I really want to try and get up to an A in Biology. I find organic chem impossible and am doing so badly at it, but I am slightly better at physical. I need general tips please to increase productivity, I always seem so tired??
I work hard during holidays, and I revised over Christmas a lot however I know my mocks didn't go well.

A-Levels are my one shot, please help!!

You’re actually in a good position; your grades aren’t bad, you’re just hitting the usual A-level wall.
For Biology, stop rereading notes and do exam questions early. Learn the mark-scheme wording and use blurting/spaced repetition, that’s what pushes B A.
For organic chemistry, everyone struggles. Draw mechanisms from memory, over and over. Focus on reagents, conditions, and why reactions happen, not just memorising lists. It does click with practice.
If you’re always tired, you’re probably overworking without proper recovery. Short, focused sessions beat long ones, and sleep matters more than extra revision.

Hi @unforeseen-denom. I have been in your position before so I can understand how your feeling. I will try my best to give you the best advice if possible. Firstly, In terms of you feeling tired all the time, its best to get your health checked. A normal check up and visit to the GP would be appropriate. This check up is just to rule out any underlying conditions. I would also say get a blood test to make sure your not low on iron. This could be a cause for why your feeling tired all the time. Its not guaranteed that this is the reason so its best to go to professional. In terms of getting the grades you want I would say try using different revision techniques, maybe you are using the wrong techniques and hence why you are not getting the grades you want. Try searching online for best revision techniques and try them out yourself and see which ones works. This could be watching videos or creating mind maps etc. I hope this helped and good luck and don't panic! 😀

Hi! So I would consider myself quite a hard working person and down below you can see some general tips I would recommend:

Procrastination:
Don’t let procrastination hit you, if you ever feel like you can’t do it, or don’t want to do it. Tell yourself ‘just do it’, even give yourself a timer, just make sure that every time you think it, you DO it.

Distraction from friends:
DO NOT DISTURB is a key thing here, if you get a message from your friend, theres no need to answer immediately, and if you feel bad, tell the people you care your phone will be on DND

Sleep:
Make sure to have a consistent sleep schedule, it helps you to not feel tired. Make sure you do not work until you get tired, set yourself a time. At 10pm, I will go to bed, and I will wake up at 9am. Just give yourself enough resting time

Flashcards:
If you feel exhausted, don’t stop the grind. Just maybe do something that takes less effort so you don’t lose all motivation. Flashcards is a really good thing, you could use Quizlet which enables you to create Flashcards, use them on your phone, PC, or laptop, wherever you want

Hope these general tips help!!

Thank you, this is helpful! I have already been doing exam questions early, though in a recent mock, I had done a lot of them on PMT already and gone through them but still couldn't remember the answer. I have heard of spaced repetition before however I have really struggled to make a schedule for it because it seems quite overwhelming to remember the different gaps for different stuff. Is there any website or easy way you know to plan it? Thanks!

Thank you - this is helpful! I definitely think I need to prioritise sleep more although I do get about 7-8 hours so that should be enough no? I also definitely get distracted and don't focus as hard as I should when I work so I end up working for hours and hours until I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm constantly 'going through' content as opposed to committing it to memory. Do you have any suggestions for this? Thank you

Great to hear it helped you out! 7-8 hours should do for an average person; however, everyone is different so I would recommend experimenting around to see what works best. Don’t be embarrassed if you need more sleep than the average (I need 10 hours!!)

What do you get distracted with? Usually I play some music in the background, nothing I’ll dance to because when I dance i stop working, but maybe something I can sing to so I can work as well. The better quality work is defo important than quantity!

Having past maths A Level Maths experience, one of the best things that helped me was watching TLMaths (I think that’s his name). He covers most exam boards and that really helped me for when I lost focus/ motivation on the other subjects as you can just listen to it while you watch or eat or anything!!

Those videos are honestly amazing and if you feel you haven’t taken it in, rewatch it!

As for revising the other subjects, I’ve heard from peers that past paper questions and flash cards are a great way to practice questions and learn terms!

I get distracted by music, or thinking and googling random stuff, or texts from friends, or other tasks, or friends in the library... thank you

Yeah some people do, in that case I would turn off your phone, try to prevent yourself from googling anything unless necessary and if it’s necessary push yourself to go back to the task at hand. With friends in the library, I would recommend asking them if they could give you some quiet space for a while so that you can focus, but if they need you, they know where to find you!

Let me know how this goes!

got an A in bio in two weeks. i mashed out every single one of ‘AlevelBiologyHelp’s videos, she’s incredibly good (i did AQA btw). i barely even did a single practice question outside of school. watching her was enough for me because she goes through every single spec point with diagrams and in really short but detailed videos and she does go through a couple questions after every vid.

am i suggesting you revise for two weeks? definitely not. not worth the stress and burnout. i’m just saying it’s not too late and hopefully you’ll find the channel useful and you’ll do lots of questions and past papers and in the next 4 months you’ll be able to even get an A* and do better than me. best of luck
