Edinburgh or Manchester Uni for Biology?

Hi everyone,
I am having a bit of a dilemma, I have received all my decisions back and my top choices are those in the title. I wanted to ask which uni is generally better looked on/targeted for jobs within the biosciences sector, and also how it is viewed internationally? I prefer Edinburgh as a city, however the course at Manchester offers a placement year, but i suppose summer placements would be possible for Edinburgh. I am doing biology with business at both.
Let me know your opinion!
Thanks x

Hey!

I just answered an almost identical question to this actually! Here’s the link to the other thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7648270&p=101082525

I hope that’s helpful! Good luck!

Reputation/rankings should not be a priority when choosing which uni to go to. The course should be your main focus - which do you prefer, what optional modules would you pick, is there a placement year to gain that all-important work experience for your graduate CV, department facilities, etc. Which uni you go to is not important to employers - it's the grade and experience you achieve.

Then consider the cost and availability of accommodation, travel home, social life and societies/sports teams, etc.

Would you say the placement year possibly offered at Manchester would be more beneficial than the extra study at Edinburgh business school that i am doing alongside my biology degree? I think I can take a year out to do work at Edin but it is not part of the course (ie wont appear on the diploma) whereas at Manchester it would be integrated into the course as far as I know. Sorry for asking so many questions, I feel a bit lost in this! I prefer the course at Edin and the city, but it is four years for a Bsc and Manchester would be 3years for a Bsc +1 yr for a placement. How important is the placement year in graduate employability? Thanks so much!
