Going to uni at 17

Hi! I’ll be going to uni next year and while I’m still waiting for all my offers I have already got one from Bristol. Bristol has been like my dream school I loved the uni and the vibe of the city however my only hesitation to going there is the fact that I will be 17 for the first 7 months. I’m just wondering if this will be an issue for going out/ social stuff. (are they strict with ids etc.) If anyone can share their own experiences/ thoughts i would be very grateful!!! Thanks

I don't think it matters which uni you go to as all bars/clubs etc are very strict about IDs as not being strict can put their licence at risk. Councils do spot checks which I suspect are done a lot more in uni cites/towns so bars and nightclubs do not take any chances. I'm 19 and always get asked for ID and on the rare occasion I don't have it have been turned away. My sister who is 22 and doing a masters recently didn't have her ID at a bar and they refused to serve her even though she clearly looks over 18 and showed her uni id but this is not an official id in most places

Hiii in the same boat as u. I’ll be going uni this September and will be 17 for a few months in my first year. I think there’s this duty of care programme that universities have for under age applicants. I received an offer so far from Manchester and it mentioned how I couldn’t join things like the Student Union. Universities hold a lot of social events so you should get in contact with them about this.

Hi I’m in Bristol and I had a few friends who were 17 when they started. There were no problems! Have fun!! Don’t worry =)
