International Student under 18 with birthday in Sept. and no family/friends in the UK

Hey , I'm an international student born on the 25th sept. which means for some unis i'll be under 18 at the start date; at least two unis (Uni of Nottingham and UWE, Bristol) have sent me parent consent form to fill in. Except I don't have any family or friends in either of those areas. I dont know whether I should send the unis an email (Nottingham start date: 21 sept and UWE Bristol: 14 sept.) aksing if i could arrive at a later date or if they could temporarily let me or smthn because I mean I would be 18 in less than two weeks and my parents dont think it's worth having to contact a guardianship agency and pay for like barely a week. (+ I'm not even sure i'll accept their offers yet). Has anyone ever had this problem?? Any Advice??

Hi! I'd email the universities about your circumstances. Because you turn 18 only a few days after the term begins, many universities can provide a short-term solution or accommodate a late start. They will likely have a student welfare department for international students who are under 18, so a guardianship agency might not be a charge for you, either.

Hey!

I haven’t been in this situation myself, but I’d recommend emailing the Admissions ([email protected]) or International Student Support team ([email protected]) directly.

UWE takes under-18 safeguarding seriously, which is why parental consent forms are required. The Admissions team will be best placed to advise on what your options are, including whether a slightly later arrival is possible or if any short-term arrangements can be considered.

It’s best to check with them directly before arranging a guardianship agency, especially since you haven’t accepted the offer yet. They can give you clear, official guidance based on your situation.

Hope that helps, and good luck!
