Student Finance

I will be starting a degree in Biomedical Science later this year, my first term will be from 25/09/26 to 2027 and so on…

My question being as a 24 year old turning 25 at the start of December this year will my student finance be based as a mature student or the latter, as the discrepancy between me being 24 and 25 would be around two months, i’d rather apply for my loan not based on my parent(s) income as it would be significantly less, will they be funny over the two months?

I’ll be living away from home based in the north west.

Hi there,

You would need to be 25 or over on or before the 1st day of the academic year to be classed as an independent student. If you are still 24 then you would need your sponsor(s) to support your application if you apply for the higher rate of Maintenance Loan.

Thanks, Drew
