Gcse exam centre Registration

Hi there

My daughter is currently being home schooled due to severe anxiety and I have got her registered with a private exam centre for the GCSE exams in the summer as they were ready to help with home invigilation. However I don't feel very confident about this private exam centre. I haven't got the exam registration details from them as yet. In the meantime the school where she is enrolled at will also be applying for her GCSE exams.
Would it be a problem if my child is registered for the GCSE exams with 2 exam centres? Please can someone advise? Thanks

Hi there. (I am a mother writing from my year 12 dd account) I hope this helps you.

Short answer:
Yes, it would be a problem if ur daughter is entered for the same GCSE subject at two different exam centres.
Exam boards do not allow duplicate entries for the same qualification.

If 2 centres submit entries for the same subject:

One entry will usually be withdrawn

This can cause delays, extra fees, stress, or in worst cases problems accessing the exam

Exam boards expect one clear exam centre per subject

What is allowed
Your daughter can be registered at more than one centre only if:
Each centre is entering her for different subjects

For example:

Maths + English via the school

Science via a private centre. That’s fine

But:
Maths at school and maths at a private centre not allowed

What I recommend u to do next:

Email or call the private exam centre ASAP and ask:
Which subjects they intend to enter her for
Which exam board(s)
Confirmation in writing that she has been entered
Details of access arrangements and home invigilation approval

Speak to the school and tell them:
You are clarifying entries
Ask for a deadline by which they will submit entries

Choose ONE centre per subject
Ideally the one you trust most to, Communicate clearly, Handle access arrangements properly. Support her anxiety needs

If a centre feels disorganised now, that’s a red flag exams are high-pressure and admin mistakes happen most often with private centres that overpromise.

I hope this is helpful!
