the Route to becoming a quant?

I am a y11 thinking about becoming a qaunt due to my love for statistic and machine learning , i want to know if there is a realistic route to becoming a qaunt like what subjects would i need to do for a level and what degree should i be doingand what universitys? , i am currently predicted 10x 9's at gcses or would it be better for me to have an appricentice ship as a quart over uni degree , i just wanna know the best way to become a quant?

PhD in some kind of computational area, en route you'll need to do an undergrad in probably maths/CS/similar (maybe physics/engineering also), possibly a masters. Some places maybe only need up to a masters.

I don't think there's an apprenticeship route into working in quant finance?

We have a quant in our family. One of the questions in the pre-interview form was "Which international Olympiad team (s) have you been in". That's the level.

It is not difficult if you are ridiculously clever. If you are only normally clever, then you will need ot get a good first, then do a PhD in something maths/ CS related, and go from there. The challenge is getting the internships you need to do first before you will be able to get a job at a quant firm. The longer you stay at uni, and the more qualified you get, the more chances you have of doing an internship and being good enough to get offered a job. The other route is to go into AI CS work (since this is the direction all quant firms are going) and transfer over from there when you have the skills

It's possible to land yourself an internship and subsequently a return offer from a quant firm out of undergrad, your maths and coding ability just have to be unbelievable.
From Year 11, the dream pipeline is probably:

Choose Maths + Physics + FM + CS for A-Levels

Get into Oxbridge / Imperial for a Maths/Physics/CS course

Maintain top grades during university, build up your CV with masters-level research projects, attend hackathons/competitions (preferably sponsored by a quant firm) and place high, have passion projects in Python/C++/Rust on the side

When application season rolls around, interview prep like crazy for technicals

Perform well in your internship and land a return offer (rates are pretty high for these)

Do u have any projects ideas as ive got around 2 to 3 years of doing python , and do u have any reading lists for maths and comp sci for transition to a level?

Oxbridge is a different tier than a normal russel group university, so no. Cambridge is stronger in STEM so maybe a slight slight edge, but it shouldn't matter too much. If anything, I know more Oxford quants than Cambridge ones personally.
