University grade question

I am in year 12 and am considering to do PPE in warwick or UCL. I was just wondering if my gcses will really hinder me if i applied to them both. I got 887777666. 8s in english lit and science combined, 7s in english lang, science combined, maths, history. 6s in psychology, citizenship, economics. In A levels i take maths economics and politics and do an EPQ. Would my GCSE grades effect me a lot when applying to both of those universities?

There will be applicants with stronger GCSE profiles, but you meet the entry requirements. What are your A-level predictions likely to be?

There will always be people applying with straight 9’s at every university but you have an incredible GCSE profile, considering youre already doing an EPQ, its more than supplementary and your subjects are perfect for studying PPE. I wouldnt stress if i were you just focus that energy on getting incredible a level grades as youre clearly very capable!! (I got some 4’s/5’s and mostly 6’s at gcse but got AAA at alevel and am on a very high ranking PPE program!!!) Amazing Alevel/ EPQ grades, a compelling personal statement, work experience, and engaging with your subjects outside of school will give you a lot more consideration from universities than people who may have aced their GCSE’s but didnt hit any of those other points! Youll do fantastic 🙂 i promise

Hi Anom,

Those are some excellent GCSE grades. 😊

I honestly would not let this concern you. As long as you meet their GCSE grade requirements, if specified, then do not worry. You just need to focus on getting great A-level grades, alongside showing you are growing your knowledge outside the classroom. Showing proactivity through super curricular activities is an excellent way to strengthen your application. This could be through physical or virtual work experiences, books, MOOCs, and more. 📚️

I recommend using the summer break to do super curriculars as you should focus on your upcoming year 12 mocks first as these may help determine your predicted grades. 📝

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Lancashire)

I don't see any reason you wouldn't be able to apply to either/both competitively? Your grades are fine
