Is BCU a good Uni??

So I got an offer from Birkbeck. But between Aston and Birmingham city I’m not sure which is the better fit since I want the whole uni experience like with societies and events and so forth. Also in regards to like the teaching and coursework for business computing & IT at Aston and business info technology at Birmingham city uni.

Birkbeck focusses on mature students and others who can only attend classes in the evening -
"Most of our courses offer an evening timetable with classes between 6pm and 9pm." - Study that fits around you - Birkbeck, University of London - so its wont be a conventional Uni experience.

Either Aston or BCU would be a good choice - both are good for technical subjects. If either course has a work-placement or study abroad that would be a big plus for your graduate CV. And they will have all the usual clubs, associations and facilities you'd expect.

Hey!

The definition of good really varies, and it’s different for everyone. Other comments have given you a couple of things to consider. Definitely take a look at the modules offered by both universities and see if either one fits your interests better. It is also worth going and having a look at each university at an open day, it’s a really good way to get a feel for the uni and how it might work for you! It’ll give you an opportunity to speak to current students and learn more about uni life, as well as academics who can inform you about the courses.

Good luck!

Hi @Mshauri

I study a different course at BCU so do not have experience with your course. However, in terms of general university experience some of the positives I have found are:

There is always a lot going on on campus, from studient union events to businesses coming in with freebies.

There are loads of different options for societies, including academic societies, sports societies and more! If there is not the society that you are looking for then you would have the option to create your own society.

The city centre campus is really close to the city centre, which makes it convinient for transport and gives you options of different things you could do during your breaks.

There are some really good food options on campus. The students union have been working hard to get discounts for students on the food, which makes it really affordable.

Our next open day is in June, however in the mean time I would recommend having a look at our virtual tour to learn more about BCU! You can access the virtual tour using this link: https://bit.ly/3NGd63P

Let me know if you have any questions about BCU!
