Cardiff sixth form college scholarship

I've done my application and they've asked me whether i want to be considered simply for a full scholarship or both full and partial scholarship. My parents have said they are willing to pay on the condition its at the very least around 70-80%, so obviously i dont know if its worth taking the risk of putting partial scholarship too. We arent that wealthy so obviously the a low partial offer wouldn't work. But then again, putting just full is risky too since its quite competitive.

really depends on your circumstances and household income and how confident you feel in the entrance exams and gcse results. im not the smartest out there but i have a lot of extenuating circumstances and got 100%. if you feel like you're a good candidate put 100%, if not maybe both is a more safe choice.

i picked fm, maths (i picked it for the scholarship paper) and physics, and im stuck between econ and eng lit atm so i put in both for now!

i did maths scholarship fm physics and chemistry(but changed it to econ), maths and fm is mostly logic, physics was ok but not wjec-type questions. i would honestly strongly advise against english lit

ahh okay, for the maths scholarship paper what would you advise looking at? Are the questions similar to wjec maths (since ik it differs with the england exam boards like edexcel); also is there numeracy related topics cuz i took the exam last year so i cant remember much of it.

For further maths, is it simikar to wjec's level 2 additional maths? Also, for physics should i revise for both unit 1 and unit 2 (i cant remember any u1 content since we took it last year)

Thank you!

it was a bit similar, i don't think you can exactly prepare as they dont publish their entrance exam past papers, some stuff was kinda like additional maths wjec (aka some pure a level maths), i remember there was a proof question and a lot of graph questions but it wasn't like olympiad level by any means. for physics there were a couple of electricity questions and mechanics(energy). i think it all tests your problem solving skills mostly. they do igcse in csfc so if you REALLY want to prepare do igcse past papers (but im not sure if they ACTUALLY used igcse in the entrance papers sorry) but tbh just make sure you know all gcse content (both years) and you should be ok. i dont really remember any numeracy stuff being there. oh also no formula booklets

oh yea i did end up having it! They didnt actually ask too many questions, just regarding interests, weakness/strengths and whether i was on track on getting 9 A*s. She was talking to me about the school mainly and that was it. I also did the CAT4 last night which I guessed quite a bit icl 😭😭 I have the entrance exams in less than two weeks which im quite nervous about. For the scholarship maths paper, is doing wjec additional maths enough? and should i look over maths content like conditional probability (also random question but is it non-calc or calc paper?). How different is the scholarship maths paper to the regular fm paper, and what would u advise looking at? Im quite nervous for it, as well as physics i feel like i might to bad on. Is it worth emailing the school to ask about what topics i should look at?

Also dyk anyone who did eng lit entrance exam? Ive last minute decided that im gonna throw it in the mix since im still not too sure abt econ. Ive heard the scholarship paper is comparison between two unseen poems but not too sure what the regular paper may be.

Thanks!

i don't really remember but i think maths was mostly pure, like graphs and sequences and whatnot. no formula sheet and i think no calc? just make sure you know the basic maths gcse and some additional maths content, same with physics. honestly reminds me of a level pure maths but a bit easier, so basically just additional maths but no integration/differentiation. you can try to email them but i think they'll just say to look at gcse syllabus and thats it 😭.i'm not 100% sure about english but I've heard it's an extract? good luck tho. i advise mingling with the people there on exam day because i didnt because i was a nervous wreck and i sorta regret it
