make the most out of med help

hi! I just wanted to ask, how can I make the most of my medicine degree knowing the future is not good for anyone right now. well I need to get in first lol but not going isn't really an option since I don't want to do my 5th choice because of the low salary ceiling and I think medicine is incredibly interesting but I know there's no point dreaming of specialising as a doctor unless I was born to be a doctor and had the money and means

how early can I start studying for things like post grad law or finance? can I get a job in those sectors without the post grad? I know for law it's a no.. what about engineering? what kind of life awaits or am I f-ked?

I do want to be paid well and I quite like office based jobs but I also can't go against my parents so im going through with medicine - y'all I can't survive if they get disappointed sorryyy but I want to make the most out of it if / when I get in! (though not likely, I've only gotten 1 interview and they're not Russel group, the other 2 rejected me and 1 im still waiting to hear from)

You haven't even started Medicine and are already looking for a way out... you should just not do it then. Talk with your school about how you don't want to do Medicine but are afraid to go against your parents' wishes. It might be scary but it will be for the best, I cannot state enough what a terrible idea it is to do Medicine if you don't want to do it. Take a gap year and look at the different pathways to become a lawyer or work in finance, because there are plenty of ways.

I'd point out you don't need to be "born to be a doctor" nor do you need to have "money and means" to be a doctor. If you want to work as a clinician and use the wide range of science based knowledge doctors developed in your clinical work, then medicine is a fine choice regardless of your background or at what point you decided to pursue medicine.

Equally though as above if you don't want to be a doctor at all you shouldn't apply to medicine or do a medical degree - it exists solely for that purpose. Yes people who start doing medicine then realise midway through the degree or after qualifying they don't want to do it can go into other areas but there's no reason to do a 5-6 year degree in something you have no interest in that you don't intend to use and to go into something else, when you can just do another 3 year degree and do that plus work and earn for 3 years on top of it by the time you'd finish the medical course.

Also you cannot live your life for your parents and they cannot live their lives through you. To be blunt when they are dead and buried if you spent your entire life doing what they wanted without ever wanting to do any of those things yourself, you're going to be bitter, resentful, and alone and hating your career and your life. You need to make decisions for yourself. That's what being an adult is.
