Hi!

This is very normal to find it confusing, this part of the uni application process is often not very well guided!

If you’ve applied through UCAS you’ll need to confirm your first and insurance choices once you’ve heard back from all the unis you applied to.

If you haven’t looked round accommodation now would be a great time. Lots of unis offer applicant or offer-holder days for people who have applied to look round the uni again to help narrow down decisions after receiving offers, so look out for those! Unis will have internal accommodation application deadlines, so make sure you know what those are. Also make sure you apply to accommodation for both your first and insurance choices, just in case! Some unis also have virtual tours round accommodation too!

Yes you should apply for student finance if you are eligible, but the applications for 2026/2027 will typically open in March, so you can sort that out later!

I hope it all goes well for you, please let me know if you have any more questions!

Which uni are you applying to? They all have slightly different application processes

The university/ies that gave you an offer will send you information about accommodation and when you can apply. You can also go to their website and check out accomodation options.

However, I would focus on A-levels revision instead.

As above, you can't enter your Firm and Insurance choices until you have received all 5 decisions. Once you have entered your Firm choice that individual Uni will eventually email you about accommodation - but usually after May and with an application deadline in June, so there is absolutely no need to panic about any of this. Its also worth looking at the 'other' student accomodation websites, not just the stuff owned by that Uni.

Hello,

If you’re applying to uni halls then you’ll find accommodation details on their website. If not, search private student accommodation in the city you’ll be studying in.

Hi Elliestogden,👋

It's great to hear you have applied to Uni of Sheffield.

As others have mentioned, you should receive an email from the university about setting up an applicant account and through that you can apply for accommodation. If you select Sheffield as your firm choice, for instance, you can start to apply for self-selection accommodation from March to June. If after that date you firm Sheffield, you can still apply for accommodation by selecting your preferences and they will do their best to assign you the accommodation of your choice. Firming Sheffield also means guaranteed accommodation so don't worry if you don't apply until late.

Here is the How to Apply for Accommodation webpage, you'll see that it offers lots of guidance about the process.

But yes, for now, don't worry, you will also receive an email to register to attend an offer holder open days which are a great chance to see the campus, your subject buildings, and also the accommodation areas.

Hope this helps, do let me know if you have any further questions.

All best,
Phoebe 😀

What do you mean by A- level revision?

Are you taking A level exams which are required for your University course? Is your offer conditional/ unconditional? For conditional offers, they may have grade requirements they expect.

If they are needed, and the University expects certain grades, then you should focus on meeting those grades by studying, so that when A level results day comes round, you are in your uni of choice, without any worry about clearing etc  (this is what they meant by focusing on revision!!, as once you have got the offers, getting the grades is the next stagee!)

Unless of course you are studying something else or have unconditional offers etc!

good luck, this stage of the application is very confusing so dont be worried about it, everyone experiences this stage

Ah, okay makes sense!

Well done with that!! Keep at it, and good luck for everything.

In terms of what to do now that you have received your offers (if you are unsure and maybe still want to know more), I would always ask a tutor or teacher for some advice if possible:smile:
