Hi there, best of luck for your interview! Exciting stuff! 😊

I'm not a dentistry student myself, so don't have any specific information or tips on the application process, but I'll link a thread below that might be useful to you with more current applicants that you can chat to: Click here for the thread!

There's also a medicine applicant thread here too, if you wanted to check out that as well: Click here

Best of luck with your application! 🙌

This thread might also be helpful for you! As it has lots of current and past dental applicants there, as well.

Best of luck! 😃

first of all, WELL DONE!! dentistry schools were brutal this year...

hiya, med applicant here!
done an interview so far, still more to go!

is the dentistry one an MMI or panel?
when is it?

in terms of starting my prep, i feel like nobody ever says how to prepare. Soooo heres my tips:

make a document with folders

each folder a different section, mine are:

1.

motivations for studying my course/ wanting that career

2.

interpersonal skills (common ones such as example of empathy or organisation)

3.

NHS knowledge- specifically what the dentistry side is like and facing etc. Challenges, big discoveries or developments (one of these is always useful). BUT main hot topics like AI, staff shortage and all may be useful. Also knowledge about general bodies like GDC, and their values and principles

4.

personal statement- notes on my personal statement, as they sometimes ask about parts of these

YOU know what! i highly recommnd 'the UKCAT people'! for resources, i just used free ones from their website- they go over basically everything you may need to know. I find its actually more detailed than necessary, so i learn a few examples from a few sections, making sure i can confidently discuss them.

BUT please remember:

INTERVIEWS are to make YOU shine! you can show off (as long as you dont come off as arrogant, and are smiley), you can talk about all your acheivements, and why YOU genuinely want to be a dentist. make sure you can REFLECT on what you learned from work experiences. as long as you can do this and are aware of a few hot topics or ethical situations, you are more than fine!!

for interview day itself, i promise interviewers are so nice. sometimes it may feel like one is annoyed or seems interested- they just want to catch you out! I had an interviewer look to her right the whole time she was speaking to me... i acted confident and smiley anyways!

Do you know how soon we get our results after the interview and if we have been successful or not?
