yr 11 mock/gcse stress

Hey, okay so i keep telling myself that i want to start revision or making flashcards but i always get distracted or bored when i do start. I came back into the new year thinking i would have a fresh start to just commit to my studies, seeing as my next mock would be after the february half term, however due to a production my school is hosting they decided to move the mock to before half term. Which is about 2 week away from now. They also did not tell us about this change until the end of this week as they had to remake the timetables so that it would all fit in. How can i push myself to really commit and revise all the subjects in just 2 weeks. I’m asking this especially because my weekdays and weekends already tend to be busy. So yeah please give me any suggestions. thank you.

Wow...that sounds really stressful, especially since your school didn't say anything.
Personally, if you're finding it hard to concentrate, set a timer for 20ish mins in which you tell youself you *have* to focus, like put away all distractions like your phone and get all of your study material out. If you find even using a laptop distracting and always switch tabs, don't use one for the 20mins - just use your textbook and make paper flashcards. Once you've focussed for 20mins, I usually find it a lot easier to focus for a bit longer... plus make sure to remind yourself that you only have 2 weeks, and you can't afford to get distracted.
However, also remember not to do crazy hours and go to sleep on time, bc at one point long hours can be counter-productive if you're tired and burnt out when you study. Since you've mentioned these are your second mocks, make sure you use your other mocks to target the areas you struggled with first.
Good luck!

Hey @anna_bA3,

It's unfortunate that your school decided to move your mocks forward with minimal notice, especially if you already have a busy schedule. I'd recommend trying to create a revision schedule: identify any free time you can dedicate to revision throughout the week and create a timetable of which subjects you intend to revise during these periods. Make sure to factor in regular breaks, and dedicate more time to the subjects you struggle most with.

Mocks are a fantastic learning opportunity: they give you excellent exam experience and test your current subject knowledge. As frustrating as they might seem at times, try to make the most of them!

Best of luck with your revision,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

Hi,

It’s completely understandable to feel stressed due to the short notice. With two weeks to go, the key is to focus on small, manageable revision sessions rather than trying to do everything at once.

Try prioritising the subjects or topics you find most challenging, and use active recall methods such as flashcards, mind maps, completing topic-by-topic questions, and then moving on to past papers. Remember, these are mocks, so the aim is to identify weak areas and they aren’t a true reflection of end of year performance.

Be kind to yourself, and don’t hesitate to speak to a teacher if you’re feeling overwhelmed, they’re there to support you.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!
