Biomedical sciences modules comparison

Has anyone studied biomedical sciences at Queen Mary, Warwick, or Southampton? What are the modules and course structure like, and did you find the content interesting? Would you recommend it?

Biomedical Sciences at Warwick is quite well structured and foundation focused. The course usually starts with core topics like cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, then moves into more specialised areas later on.

The content isn’t flashy, but it’s logical and well organised, which suits people who want a strong scientific base.

The workload can be demanding, with both lab and theory components, but it’s generally paced in a manageable way.

Overall, it tends to suit students who are interested in understanding biological mechanisms and the science behind medicine.

Hi, I study biology at the University of Southampton, so there is some overlap with biomedical sciences, especially in first year. In first year you will be doing cell biology and physiology, some biochem content, and other important skill based modules. To find out more about the specifics of the modules visit this part of the University of Southampton's website. You will find there to be lots of modules offered in year 2 and 3, as you will be able to pick which you prefer based on what you learnt from first year and your wider interests.

In my opinion, first year provides a good basis of understanding, and you get to interact with many lectures from the department to get a taste for what you might like to learn more about, which I think is great!

If you have any more questions feel free to ask
