Can I apply to summer internships as a final year undergrad planning to take a master

I am currently in my 2nd year (graduating with a BSc in 2027) and failed to secure an internship in the summer 2026 cycle.

I am planning on applying for the Finance Masters courses's courses (2027-2028). Does this mean I can still apply for summer internships for the summer 2027 cycle, given I am technically in my penultimate year of studies?

If not, what are the options that I can apply for instead of this?

i say still try. unless the requirements on the internships strictly say second years only then IMO it's fine. you could also email gradrec and explain that you plan on doing a masters and see if they respond with that’s okay. another option is just applying for the grad programme straight up without the internship. in terms of wanting experience tha the internship will give you, it genuinely won’t hurt to email around like ‘smaller’ companies and firms and seeing if they’ll take you on for experience because like 6/10 times you’ll find yourself with a yes. hope this helps

Hello!
From my experience most companies will say yes. The questions they tend to ask in the applications are a simple tick box exercise, often summer internships also take on final year students too. In my placement year I was counted as a penultimate year student. If you are applying for a masters course, you are technically eligible for most internships unless explicitly stated otherwise as the course is usually a year, unless you're part-time. Do read the applications carefully and ensure your CV is ATS ready to make sure you're not filtered out early. Worth a try regardless!

Hope that helps,

Yes, just read the job description in case they are specifically looking for penultimate year students/graduates etc. Since you are in 2nd year at the moment, you still have some time to secure something for the summer of 2026 (it is certainly not over yet). Many graduates apply to internships/ industrial placements so you are definitely not far behind. Just keep on applying to as many roles as you can and learn from the mistakes of any of your unsuccessful applications. Hope this helps
