pros and cons of bath?

i'm deciding on my top choice to study chemistry in september, and i'm between bath and warwick. what would people say the pros and cons are of bath, with regards to the course, facilities, campus life, things to do etc?
Hi there!

I can't comment on Warwick too much (apart from saying, having visited, that it's a lovely modern campus!) but I can hopefully give my perspective on what's good and less good about Bath.

Pros of Bath

Excellent placement scheme for all UG courses - you get tonnes of support with finding and applying from a dedicated team per faculty

Lovely city - its small but with a lot to do (shopping, street food, coffee houses, oldy worldy tea shops, Georgian architecture, supermarkets, pubs, green spaces for picnics in summer, a few cocktail bars/clubs and even a place that does axe throwing) - there is probably quite a bit more stuff to do in Bath than there is in Coventry.

Campus food outlets are affordable as the huge majority have meals for £1.50

Well transport connected - U1s, U2, U3s and U4s all run from Campus to town and there's at least one bus every 5-10 minutes. Also from Bath bus station in town you can get to Bristol and Wells for £3.00 if you wanted to visit somewhere else

Campus is quite small with everything close together so feels like a little village/community

Cons of Bath

Bath has a high cost of living (similar to London) - and so renting there is expensive, although there is a lot of student accommodation available

Bath is quite a small city which may not feel like enough for those who are used to places like London, Manchester, Birmingham etc

Limited city parking (although you will get this with most cities)

Bath has limited nightlife - so if you wanted to visit bigger clubs you'd have to get the bus to Bristol!

Campus is on a large hill. The views from it are excellent. but this makes it difficult to walk/cycle on bad-weather days and so incurs a little extra transport expense for the bus up the hill (obviously Warwick is on flat ground so wouldn't have this problem!)

This is just my personal perspective but hopefully it helps a little bit. Also try and go to any offer holder visit days you get invited to because these are also a great chance to have another look at the uni, learn in more depth about the chem course and if you'd find it interesting, and meet some current students 🙂
