Resits and college stuff

Hii, i'm a current year 12 student doing edexcel IAL biology, chemistry and physics. and i'm genuinely confused about like resits and like colleges because i really want to get into a good uni in the uk (imperial, UCL, oxford, etc) but like they don't allow any resits on their website but its rlly vaguely worded? do they mean the whole alevel or if i resit just one unit paper? will it be used against me if i resit one unit because i did poorly in it or do i have to do all my units in one attempt? and like if i do resit one paper just once do i have to provide like full reasons as to why i redid it or is the first resit a free pass? some guidance would be appreciated thank youu.

Schools and universities take a different approach to exams, and the more competitive universities don't have much capacity to allow resits themselves. Also, because they are competitive, they don't need to accept students that don't get their grades first time.

So the top, most competitive universities, you need to pass all papers first time and get good grades to be most competitive. That's not to say that accidents, disasters etc don't happen, and excuse a resit. But just not working hard enough and needing a second chance won't cut it when competing against people who get the grade first time.
