Hi there, great to hear you're making your decision on which university halls to move into here at Plymouth! 😄
I stayed in halls for my first year and really enjoyed Francis Drake, although I have friends that stayed in other halls that also had great experiences, both on campus and in the student village across the road. 🏡
It definitely depends on what personal preferences you might have, if you have anything in particular that you're looking for, and what your needs are as a student. Francis Drake was great as it's in the heart of campus, right alongside Mary Newman, and most of my lectures were just minutes away. However, the student village is also just a two minute walk across the road so there's not much in it either way. Francis Drake and Mary Newman, being on campus, might feel a little quieter (at least outside of flats) as they're a little more on their own than those halls in the student village, with more of a student community atmosphere, so that's also worth considering based on your preferences. 🙂
Francis Drake is one of the more recently renovated halls but has very similar bedrooms and facilities to other halls (take a look at some of the online photos and in-person showroom in Mary Newman if you ever visit for an open day/offer holder day! It's on the more expensive side because of this and also because most rooms have en-suites with shared kitchens, whereas some halls have shared bathroom facilities, so it's worth having a look at each one to determine the best options for you out of the available room types.
If you have any preferences towards who you share with, I think you can pay a little more to have a quieter flat of around 3 people instead of between 3-10 in a flat, but bear in mind that larger flats do come with double the appliances (like fridges and ovens), so don't worry about that factor too much! I enjoyed my flat of 6 as there wasn't too many people, but it was enough to socialise with and make friends. The accommodation team also often sorts students into single-sex, non-drinking, and other preference-based flats upon request, so do let them know if you have any preferences like that as they can help to put you in the best spot for you. 😊
Hope this helped and if you have any more specific questions about your options, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help! 🙌
