Thought I’d start a thread! Did the video interview today and found the questions surprisingly difficult. How about everyone else?

Hey Eleanor, could you please share some of the questions you had or the competencies they focused on?

I don’t think it’s fair to others to share what the questions were but they relate to the competencies. More scenario based than motivational I’d say.

No problem, completely understand. Scenarios specifically relating to planning, you mean? Also, thank you for replying!

Heya eleanor, I’d agree. One question was what I’d expect, but i think it was second one that was very specific and not sure how they’d assess. Going by what usual competency questions are like, these were a bit more wordy and could throw some people off, so I’m assuming the their marking would reflect that.
But yeah I was expecting one or two liner questions, not a paragraph with follow up questions 😂 all to be answered in 2mins

Yeah exactly! So many points to address in 120 seconds. Would’ve loved a q which was more personal to our interests/understanding of the role. Oh well. Did our best so no point dwelling too much

Another thing is the email gave us some video preparation tools that I signed up for - turns out to be a Pathways to Planning AI WhatsApp chatbot. Ridiculous in my opinion, as I applied to the local government scheme for a different course last year, and their video interview prep tools were way better

Did you run out of time in any of the questions?i Was frustrated as the follow up questions took time away from focusing on answer the main question. Not to reveal too much, but the follow up questions could be interpreted differently by people - either a way to consolidate the main ask of the question, or to add further to your planned structure. Either way, unnecessary for a short window of answering

I think I ran out of time on the final q slightly. The fact that I had to keep scrolling up and down to look at the question, the bullet points and the timer definitely put me off slightly and that was on MacBook, so I can only imagine how tricky that’d be on tablet. I completely understand why they’ve done it, to get personal experiences and make sure people can’t use AI to think up an answer but yeah I feel like there’s no right or wrong way to answer those, which means the marking will be super subjective

I had the exact same issue, it wasn’t very user friendly and really threw me

I just had a 1-1 coaching session, I can share some stuff make sure research about the LGA and know the 3 values. Questions will be based on past experiences and situations that may come up in the role.

I just completed the video interview and have come online to see whether anyone else found it difficult too. I already work in a planning adjacent sector and have done many interviews over the years, but found this to be very difficult the way the questions were very long and I found the whole process of a pre-recorded interview very off putting. I understand that you want to make it inclusive so more people can go through the process because it doesn't require a person on the other end, but I still found it quite odd. I wonder how those with things like dyslexia manage with that style of question in such a short amount of time - hopefully they are given a longer time to respond.
I also had a lot of technical problems in that the record button wasn't showing and I had to try several devices to get it to work, so perhaps if I was less flustered I'd have found the process easier.
Good luck to everyone though!

Just received my email that I passed this stage! Feel quite surprised as didn’t think I did too well for the same reasons you guys mentioned. Good luck everyone, hope you get your emails too!

I’m through to AC also! Good luck to everyone still waiting.

I'm through too, well done Eleanor and ktjsc 🙂 - I went to book a slot but then the page glitched and now I can't get back onto it. Is anyone else having this too?

same here, assuming lots of sudden traffic.

the assessment centres are quite soon, but i prefer that to a long drawn out application like other grad programmes tbh.

I've booked mine on, looks like they just had to send a proper email out first 😀

Yes quite soon but still a good 2 weeks plus to prep
