Liverpool Hope Subject of the Week: English Language

Hey everyone,

Time for our subject of the week! This week is... English Language! :clap2:

Are you interested in exploring language, becoming a writer, linguist, or saving the world one word at a time?

Liverpool is the perfect location to study language and its structures- and it’s not just thanks to its trademark accents and dialects! Whether it’s the bilingual signs of the first Chinatown in Europe or the Viking heritage of the Wirral, the region’s rich and complex history of languages and cultures creates a vibrant multilingual and multicultural landscape.

Our English Language graduates have built a range of interesting careers in journalism, the legal profession, policing, teaching, education, business, podcasting, speech and language therapy, even an internship with the UN. As part of their career development, our graduates have also gone on to study postgraduate level courses such as speech and language therapy, PGCE, journalism teaching English to speakers of other languages or law conversion courses. In fact, 95% of our graduates are in employment or further study 15 months after graduating.

Thanks to our small-group teaching, every student has the 1-1 support to pursue their own academic interests and explore the areas of language that they are passionate about. Our students have conducted their own final-year research in areas as diverse as the influence of autism on language acquisition in children, the language of AI-written prose, computer-mediated analyses of political speeches, the history of words for madness, and many others!!

Any questions? Don't be afraid to get in touch!

Ella
