The Student Room Group

After applying on UCAS, roughly how long does it usually hear back from LHU?

I applied before the equal consideration date finished, but I was wondering how long it would take to hear back from the university regardless of if I received an offer or not? So far, I've received emails from the other universities I've applied for + two offers, but I've not gotten any regular email from LHU yet... Not that I'm impatient, I'm just nervous as I would love to attend this university!! Thank you if you can respond :-)

Heya! I'm excited to hear that you've applied for Hope, it's a lovely place to study. What subject are you interested in?

I'd advise that give us up to two weeks to get back to you at the moment, but feel free to call or email if you still haven't heard after then! Best of luck to you 🙂

I'm so glad to hear that! Environmental Geography sounds super interesting too. Let me know if you have any questions about the uni whilst you wait to hear back- I did Film & Drama so a bit different 😅 but can speak from experience about being a Hope student.

Thank you for being so helpful! :-) If it's not too much, could I ask what you think is essential to buy for yourself in the accommodation on campus? And how would you say the public transport from the campus into the city, if you took it? I've only seen one post complaining about LHU being far out, but I think the distance seems nice... especially because theres a bus that can take you to the city centre right outside campus!

Not at all, ask away!

Most of our halls come with all the kitchen essentials (like a kettle, microwave, toaster) and cleaning materials (mop, brush, hoover) and an iron/ironing board. I'd recommend bringing your own utensils (plates, glasses, mugs, knives and forks etc.) and cooking stuff like pots and pans. You'll need to buy things like washing up liquid and surface spray etc, but you can always do that with your flatmates when you all arrive. You'll also need to bring your own duvet, pillows, and bedding. I lived in halls and really enjoyed it! Away from the essentials, I'd recommend bringing (or buying when you get here) things that make the room feel cosy and like your own.

I lived and studied on our Creative Campus which is in the city centre, but I worked part time on Hope Park in the student bar so I still experienced travelling in! I wouldn't say it's difficult at all. If you want to save some money you can take our free shuttle bus that travels between campuses, as once you're at Creative you're basically in the centre. This only operates in the week and stops at around 6pm, as it's designed to get people to their classes, so outside of that there are plenty of public buses too (as you seem to have spotted!). There are at least 3 services that go from right outside the uni into the centre, and a few more if you're willing to walk 5 mins up the road as well. So it's never an issue. If you're going into town with other people then you can also share a taxi, as this cost split can sometimes even be cheaper than the bus and works well for evenings.

It's not a campus that's outside of the city, we're still very much in Liverpool- just a quieter suburban area! It's a beautiful part, right next to Calderstones Park and not far from the famous Strawberry Field as well! There are plenty of cute restaurants, cafes and pubs right next to campus, and down the road you have Smithdown which is a popular place for students to live if they choose to move into shared housing after halls. It has lots of bars, takeaway restaurants, and charity shops. On the way to Smithdown you also pass Penny Lane, so that's another fun tourist spot! The Hope Park campus itself also has a groceries/essentials shop, a gym, three cafes, a bar/restaurant, gift shop, and food court, so there's plenty to do. It's a beautiful place to live and study.

Our Aigburth accommodation campus is next to Sefton Park and the much loved Lark Lane, so that's also a great area to explore. Make use of the shuttle bus!

I hope this helps and isn't too much information. Please let me know if you have any other questions

It's a great amount of information, thank you! It's great to hear that there's so much close to campus, as well as lots being on the campus itself. It's such a lovely area, so I'm really looking forward to hopefully being able to attend here!!!
I'm very happy you answered my post with so much :-) I really appreciate it!!

It's me again! I have a few more questions, if that's alright !!
Generally, how did you find your time there? I imagine it to be a little stressful, as all unis are, but I'm wondering more about the social or educational side of things.. was your lecturer/professor kind and helpful? And when you went there, was there any sort of freshers week or societies?
Additionally, is the accommodation in Hope Park reserved exclusively for first years? It says so on the student accommodation website for LHU, but clarification on that would be nice (and sorry if it's a lot to ask!!)
Feel free to take your time to respond, thank you so much again!! :h:

Of course, that's what we're here for! ☺️

Every persons experience is of course unique, but I hear overwhelmingly positive things about students time at Hope, which matches up to my own experience too. My lecturers and tutors being such kind, understanding people was one of the best things about my time here. Especially as we're a small uni, the class sizes are nice and small too so all your tutors get to know you well, and can consider different needs you might have and stuff. My old tutors are all still really supportive of me to this day!

Yes, there's a Freshers week and Freshers Fair. The Fair is run by our Students' Union (known as Hope SU), as are all the sports teams and societies. There is such a fun range of societies, and opportunities throughout the year to start up your own society too! I started a Taylor swift Society in my third year, which is still going strong 😂 There's also a society called Cheese and Biscuits! So as you can see, it's not only the traditional ones you may think of, there should be something for everyone. Hope SU also run an independent advice service, lots of fun events throughout the year, a student-led 'listening' service called Nightline, and have 3 elected student officers to run campaigns and represent the students' needs. They're great!

Finally, I can confirm Hope Park accommodation is first-years only. We also have accom on Creative and Aigburth. First years are guaranteed to have accommodation with us, even if it's not your first choice (but usually it would be), so it's not something you need to worry about at all.

Don't be afraid to ask any more questions that you think of, it's really no problem 🙂

I see!! I was asking about the accommodation for first year because I was unsure about where I would be for second and third year, but then I remembered about accommodation on the Creative and Aigburth campuses + the free shuttle bus to and from! Additionally, its lovely to hear about all the sorts of societies (the cheese and biscuits one sounds incredible! haha) and chances to create a new one. So thank you for clarifying both of these for me :-)
I don't have much else to ask at this point since I'm quite happy, but if there's anything else you think I should know then please do :-D Again, thank you so much!
