Hey there,
I undertook quite a bit of work while doing my GCSEs and A-levels so here's what I recommend to ensure you're making good money and supporting your personal situation.

Volunteering and Virtual Work experience
Speakers for Schools, Springpod, Forage, Doit.life, local councils, animal shelters and charity websites are all brilliant options to find these. I engaged quite a bit with Speakers for Schools and Springpod during my GCSE period and they were great experiences.

In-person Work Experiences
Chat to your school advisors and use LinkedIn or direct searched. Your school staff are most likely to be able to organise good work experiences for you to apply for directly. Charities such as ICanYouCanToo work on upskilling students through work experiences so do check them out too. LinkedIn networks can often share many brilliant work experiences so do ask around if you don't have an account, your parents/carers or teachers may see something that interests you. You can also search up work experiences per age range and see what comes up and get a guess for predicted application dates and deadlines. Companies who do it once often repeat the process.

Paid Work
I would recommend tutoring, dog-walking, babysitting or similar activities. Start with neighbours interested and grow this further, people can talk quickly. You can also work at local cafes but these tend to pay low-rate due to the age boundary. They're great for growing soft skills and customer-facing skills but not the best for your bank.

Hope this helps,
Aura (Uni of Staffs)

Hi @Anonymous0505

I have a couple posts here that you may find useful and give you ideas on potential places to apply
Where to apply for a summer job
Where to apply for Christmas temp jobs

Although the posts were made for seasonal roles most of the places are often looking for staff all year round.

I hope this helps and good luck

Heya! (:

While i was in school i did some virtual work experience (covid times) - might be worth asking at school to see if they know of any companies that they already have links with or of any other students who previously did work experience that you could then apply for! - if you have a wee chat with them and a think about the type of experience you'd be looking for thats a fab option😊

at the time for whatever reason i did this virtual experience thing with a law firm lol - considering im doing a chemistry degree now pretty random but was a interesting experience 😅- my sister did something with the co-op for a few weeks which was great for popping on her cv and then securing an actual part-time job later on (:

I also did some voluenteering for the british heart foundation - if i remeber right i think i was 16 by then so you may have to be at a legal to work age, but if you have any local chairty shops nearby thats always a great cause to have a look into! - same goes with any after school clubs, a few of my friends voluteered as girl guide helpers when i was in school and found it pretty fun, also not work experience exaclty but i used to be an autism ambassador for my school alongside helping out with the science fayre! - those type of things are still fab for some experience and something to chat about in actual job interveiws before getting a first job 🤗

For part-time jobs, majority of places will be looking for and sometimes require for you to be 16+, as others were mentioning little jobs for neighbours like babysitting are great for a little extra money and experience - also means your not wokring a ton ontop of school, generally while at school i was working a max of 12 hrs a week which i found to be manageable and still give me the free time for other things (:

ive just linked here the UK gov rules involving working as a younger person, definitely worth having a look at so you know your rights if you do get a job as you are legally entitled to more breaks if your under school leaving age!! - theres also some more restrictions on the types of work and the times where you can work just worth being aware of (:

hope this helps a bit, best of luck finding something 🤗

You could volunteer with girlguiding- at your local rainbows, brownies or guides group.
Or with scouting- with a cubs, beavers or scouts group.

Hi,

For virtual work experience, I’d recommend the Springpod website, as it offers a wide range of courses.

For in-person volunteering, charity shops like the British Heart Foundation, as well as local community centres or libraries, are great options.

As mentioned above, babysitting, pet sitting, or starting small creative businesses can also be good ways to earn money and build skills.

Hope this helps,
