Is anyone else the same? PLEASE help, Need advice!!

Hi.

I’m a year 12 student who’s currently studying bio chem maths at a level (all edexcel A level not AS). So far, maths and bio I have been finding good, some parts more enjoyable than others. But chemistry…. Omg how it’s changed. It used to be my fav science in gcse and now it’s my least fav subject by a mile for a couple reasons: it’s got increasingly harder than I expected, a lot of things we were taught at gcse turned out to be ‘lies’ to put it in an exaggerated way and for me, it feels like we r going at 100mph during lessons. This feels discomforting as we r constantly told by the teachers oh this is the “easy part”.

My question is I really really want to get better at chem, but when I don’t have a test it’s hard to find revision time for it since I always have a lot of other stuff (that I won’t go into detail about) going on. Then, sometimes I’d forget something we learnt right at the v start and re-learning it all over again is quite painstaking, especially without someone there to explain it to me. I’ve been doing mid in chem tests and would like to get better. ANY tips would be appreciated.

Whether u were or are in the same position as me, ways that can effectively revise chemistry, any apps websites YT channels, where to get past questions, how I can fit in revision, anything.

Also where do u get the motivation to revise? I really want/need to do well in a levels but in a chem test which I have in a few days I’ve done absolutely nothing for, it all just makes me feel so stressed and idk how to describe it and Ik it’s pathetic sorry, just wondering if anyone’s managed to overcome this.

Thanks so much.

Doing chem papers is like playing a memory game. Just do lot of questions, even if u don’t know how to do it just write bs and check the answers. In ur brain you’ll start to retrieve information as you mark and eventually figure out the content. I recommend just using Quizlet or anki and using a whiteboard to retrieve theory. Theory in chem is easy and does not require much brain juice. For motivation…well if you don’t lock in now youll NEVER lock in especially during year 13 mocks (like me rn), even if it’s for 5 minutes just do it!!!

Tysm I really appreciate ur message. Where would u suggest getting practice questions from (apart from pmt). I do PMT practice qs, but for example, in chemistry now we r only doing the sub topic 6B alkanes out of the whole topic 6, and pmt only has one (new specification) question booklet for that (on top of this somehow the questions given on pmt are wildly different to the chem tests which we r given).

Also I was going to ask Quizlet v anki. Currently I use Quizlet and I have the premium subscription. It’s great so far, I think it’s helping me learn the content, but I really really want to get into using anki. I asked a girl in my class and she said it takes agessss to set up and it’s so hard to do so. How do u suggest learning on how to set up anki on iPad (I don’t really want to create cards but other things such as how to access other people’s sets on anki like u can on Quizlet, best times for the very easy, easy, hard and very hard/difficult to really remember content) Also, mote crucially, how/can I import my Quizlet cards into anki, is there a way to do this?

Your reply would be greatly appreciated
