Help in choosing degree

Hey everyone , bit of a dilemma, I have to choose between either biochemistry at Aberdeen university or Human biology and physiology at Glasgow university for this September, I live near Glasgow and therefore could commute but would have to live in Aberdeen if I go there, my goal is to do grad med but I am also interested in research alongside it, both courses seem appealing to me but I am having trouble deciding which one to go for. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Where do you want to study medicine? I would maybe apply for that one that way you can get an idea of the campus and feel comfortable before you start.

Most likely Glasgow as that’s the medical school I live nearest

Hi, this is the University of Aberdeen rep account. Thanks for your interest in studying with us!
I think that it's definitely worth trying to weigh up which course you're more interested in, but if you're stuck there I would say to make a list comparing pros and cons of the different cities. Do you want to be in a big city vs a small city, do you want to be close to current friends/family or move away for a while, are there things that appeal to you about these cities otherwise or are good for any hobbies you have; these are some factors you might want to think about. Even though your goal is to do graduate medicine you're still going to be in this degree and city for a few years beforehand so have a think about what matters to you in a place to live.
I think it would also be good for you to compare commuting versus staying in halls, whichever uni you decide to go for. I previously commuted from Aberdeenshire to university in the city and it can be a big drain on time and energy depending on the distance, so forming a picture of how much of your week you might spend commuting is worth doing either way. Although that being said there's nothing stopping you from commuting to Glasgow for a while and then moving into the city if/when you're ready!

I hope you find this helpful and if you want any more information about Aberdeen which might be useful to helping you make a decision let us know!
