The Student Room Group

Lancaster or Nottingham Trent

I have offers from both to study international business/management at similar grades. I feel like i may enjoy NTU more because of the vibrant city life especially as I'm from a village in the North West and I feel Lancaster may be a bit similar to that and I may feel a bit isolated. I know that Lancaster is more prestigious and academic focused and it is within driving distance so I could definitely save money on accommodation in the later years. If anyone has any experience from these universities especially from the management schools please let me know! Id be really interested to know your experiences and if your course has prepared you enough for future employment, which is something I'm a bit paranoid about, considering many people often stereotype NTU.

Many thanks !!!

Hi @goldenbrix,

It's great to hear you've applied to study one of our Business and Management courses at NTU!

The first thing I'd recommend considering is that you still have plenty of time to make your firm and insurance choices - you can check against the UCAS key dates calendar here, so do take your time to fully assess your options.

I would also recommend visiting the universities you're considering, if you've not done so already. These can be a great opportunity to speak to staff and current students, ask the key questions that will help you decide, as well as experience the campus and wider city first hand. Our next open day at NTU is coming up on the Saturday, 7 March, but we also have tours you can book throughout the year.

Another element to consider is placement and professional experience opportunities. When looking beyond university into your first graduate job applications, any experience you've had either with employer-led projects or placements will set you apart from other applicants. Take a look at our employability and careers information here to find out more, as well as some of our student stories - many mark their placements as a highlight!

Personally, I came to Nottingham to study (graduated from NTU in 2019) and have stayed here ever since - it's really become home for me and I couldn't imagine living and working anywhere else! A highlight for me is the wide Music and Arts scene - there's no shortage of venues and theatres with events all year round, no matter your interest.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions!

Hi there

Congratulations on your offers so far! We're so pleased that you are considering Lancaster 🦆

I will try my best to offer some insight into the student life at Lancaster as I'm not a management school student. For information about the course you can chat to one of our management school students directly on Unibuddy: Ask a student - Lancaster University.

From my experience, I haven't felt isolated at Lancaster despite coming from a bigger city (Manchester) . As we are a campus university majority of our freshers live on campus where we have a great community due to our collegiate system. I've met my closest friends whilst living in different flats in first year and we've been housemates for 3 years now!

Employment / Internships: The careers team at Lancaster is fantastic, and you will be able to have lifelong access to the service as an alumni! Furthermore, we have a dedicated Management School specific careers service: LUMS Careers Service.

Location and environment: The City of Lancaster and A tour of Lancaster University are great videos to help you gauge what Lancaster is like. One great thing about Lancaster is our transport links, my friends and I often go on day trips to Manchester, Blackpool, London to see concerts, shop and get the big city experience.

Nightlife: Lancaster has a few clubs such as our student union ran The Sugarhouse however, we definitely have more of a pub culture. Our societies host socials frequently with Wednesdays and Fridays being popular for socials.

Societies and Sports: We have over 160 societies here at Lancaster which you can find here Groups @ Lancaster Students' Union

Hope this helps! Any other questions I'll be happy to assist.

Best Wishes,
Jade
